Last year one of the most attacked moves Reese made, mainly from outsiders not accusing this board, was cutting Petigout and replacing him with David Diehl. This headline should sum it up as a GOOD move.
Roy Cummings, of The Tampa Tribune, reporting for The Sporting News, reports Tampa Bay Buccaneers OT Donald Penn will enter training camp as the starting left tackle. He will compete with OT Luke Petitgout (knee).
Wow, I knew it was the right move last year based off his injury history, false starts, and ballon salary but I thought he was starting material at least. He wasn't as good as he was paid to be but that move was chastised outside the organization like crazy. A year later Diehl is the starting LT, and got an extension to do so into the future at a reasonable price, if memory serves right. The guy has played every position with the exception of center on the line.
I trust Reese's judgment.

The move was a good one for Reese, but I'd still like to see the Giants upgrade the LT position at some point in the not-too-distant future. Diehl has done the job admirably, but I still feel like he's a LG playing LT.
Maybe Guy Whimper will prove he's really the goods, and the coaches all said when he was drafted, at some point. B/c I think if they had a solid LT to plug in there, they could move Diehl over to LG and Seubert would be a solid backup to have around for depth. I just think that'd make the line better all around. But first they'd have to find a LT who is better than Diehl, and I dunno that they have that on the roster right now.

I it ain't broke......leave it alone.
David Diehl is just fine at LT, I'm trying to remember one game where it looked as if he was a LG playing as a LT, but I can't remember one. I do remember all the false starts Pettigout had the previous year and i'm still pissed. Diehl is a football player, and football players can line up anywhere and perform. Let Diehl stay at LT.

I LOVE the fact that Diehl doesn't commit the ridiculous penalties that Luke LittleCheese did, and also love the fact that: he actually plays 16 games.
BUT... watch the Super Bowl again; Adalius Thomas consistently owned Diehl all night long.

Agree, but lets not forget our coaches. They are the ones working with these guys and have the knowledge to under stand who can do what. This group of guys have done very well year in and year out.
You are absolutely on the money, they have made great moves, lets hope it continues.

Well first of all when watching film of Adalius Thomas, how many LT's DIDN'T he manhandle? Of the times AD "owned" Diehl how many sacks were there? Look Diehl is an economical LT but right now on the roster who is better at the position??? Guy Whimper could be and I liked him in spot duty for sure, didn't look that bad at camp but Diehl since he has been a Giant was the guy they were constantly looking to replace but they just couldn't get him off the field. Sure sometimes it isn't pretty, but the guy just wins every battle he's in, be it against the DE's or competition in camp. He doesn't have the most talent or size but he's a football player in a blue collar position. He's what I want there.
