Personally, I think that if they stay healthy, the Rockets will win the division. And I'm not saying that because I'm a Rockets fan.  I think a lot of people are way over-hyping the Hornets. I know they CP3, who I have a tremendous amount of respect for and is the best PG in the Association, and they have that punk David West, but look at the rest of the team and you'll know what I'm talking about. The Spurs are old but still have Parker, Duncan, and Ginobli which is enough for them to contend. The Mavs have a lot of talent, but just don't have the mental strength to be serious contenders.  The Grizzlies shouldn't even be in this conversation.  With that being said, who do all of you think is going to win the division?

bump indeed. Since you didn't respond to my post on early 2009 favorites, I'll assume you didn't read it and repost it here for you.

...I think you are underrating them (the Hornets). They are a young team that kept themselves intact, yet you think they will regress. Teams had 82 games to figure out how to stop a Paul to Chandler alley-oop. They didn't, yet you are convinced that they'll figure it out this year. You say Peja is easy to stop, but he averaged 16.4 ppg. Mo-Pete may be the weakest starter, but he still shoots at an impressive rate. His per-game numbers are down, because he gets less looks, but thats ok. I'll take alley-oops to Chandler, 3 pointers from Peja, layups from Paul, and mid-range jumpers from West if it comes at the expense of Peterson's numbers. I know our front-court depth isn't much, but Julian Wright showed promise as a rookie. I don't know if this is his break-out year, but it's too soon to count it out.
to add to that, they also have Jannero Pargo and Bonzi Wells coming off the bench. Maybe not the best bench, but there are contributors, and they have one of the best starting 5's in the league.

Look, TDbeagle, I respect your opinion but first of all nobody took this team for real till after the all-star break. Heck, a lot of people picked them to lose to Dallas in the first round. But, from the moment the regular season starts next season, the Hornets will be taken seriously and they will be one of the teams that are targets of most teams in the West. It's a lot harder to win a lot when other teams expect you to and therefore, you get much harder play from your opponents. Trust me, that alley-oop sh## will slow down next year. Teams have a whole offseasn to prepare for that. If Chandler wants to be an elite center in the league, then he has to develop some kind of low-post game. Second, I don't know if you watched the Spurs/Hornets series but there was a guy on the Spurs by the name of Bruce Bowen who basically made Peja a non-factor. The Rockets have a guy similar to that by the name of Shane Battier. He can be just as physical as Bowen and is even more athletic then Bowen. Peja isn't that great of a player cuz he's just a shooter. He's not real athletic so his ability to drive to the hoop is very limited and he's not a great defender. In the 4 games the Rockets and Hornets played against other last year, Battier held Peja to an average of 8.5 ppg and Peja's high in those 4 games was 13. Those numbers speak for themselves. Morris Peterson is weak, nuff said. I do agree with you in that Wells and Pargo are good scoring threats off the bench. I wish the Rockets had a backup PG that can knock down shots like Pargo does. But other than that, the bench sucks. Wright can be stopped with a good defender (Rockets have plenty of those). Ely and Armstrong are poor excuses for backup big men. The Rockets finished just one game behind the Hornets and Spurs last year and we didn't even have Yao. Not tryin to make excuses, but if we had Yao, we probably would've won close to 60 games and won that division and may have made it further than the first round. Plus, I live in Metairie, LA (about 15 minutes away from Nawlins) and I know that NOLA sports teams have a tendency to fail to exceed expectations when they are high (see last year's Saints). The Hornets might not win as many games as you think they will (maybe 50-52) and might not be as good as most people think the are. So, to all Hornets and Spurs fans: If the Rockets stay healthy for most of next season, WATCH OUT, cuz Clutch City is coming and may very well be the best team in that division and a threat in the West!!!!!!

GO ROCKETS!!!!!!!!!!

P.S. When I said we didn't have Yao, I meant only for the last 25 games of the reg. season and postseason.

Are we asuming the Rockets will be healthy? Yao makes T-Mac look like Cal Ripken. (Or maybe Morris Peterson, former ironman?) Speaking of Peteron,

Morris Peterson is weak, nuff said.

no, not enough said. I don't care if you shatter my entire worldview, tell me how he sucks. All of his per game numbers are down, but he is the 5th option among the starting 5. In Toronto, he was a top-3 option. Of course his numbers are going to go down. 2 numbers I am very happy with: His 3 point % is 2 points above his career average, and his turnovers are down to about half a game.

You mention the no one took the Hornets seriously until the all-star break. Rewind half a month, and people are wondering why the ever took the Rockets seriously. 24-20 is good if you're in the Atlantic. I know, they rattled off 22 in a row, but do we expect that to happen again? They went a quarter of their season without a loss. Impressive, but not likely to happen again. Colorado Rockies anyone?

I should point out that I have Houston in 2nd, and I believe you have NO in 2nd or 3rd? and we agree the Spurs would fill in the other spot? No one is expecting anyone to run away with the division, so we are arguing about a 1 or 2 game difference lol.
