Regardless of the strategy, the underlying philosophy is the same: the closer a hitter gets to Strike Three, the greater his panic. Not surprisingly, pitchers usually win this one-sided battle. With an 0-2 count, American League hitters were kept to a .195 average last year. National Leaguers fared even worse, batting just .187.

lol, obviously not my mind but a stat from ESPN

You do understand that the Red Sox cannot face the Rays in the 1st round, right?

Not to mention its the Rays now...not the Devil Rays....fricken Padre fans...most pedestrian sports fans on the planet reside in Southern Cali....just go surfing people....give it up, you're irrelevant

Sdfan, the wildcard team will play the division winner with the best record outside of their own division. They won't play their division winner in the first round.

mpl maybe you never played baseball before...if you did you would understand that is just how Abreu likes to hit

A) played a lot of it

B- taking the 1st strike all the time is STUPID. If you played at all and do not know that then guess what? You're stupid too.

C- just because he likes it does not make it any less stupid.

he has had a hell of a lot success doing so too,

Is that right?

Let's look at this season

0-2 he is at .174--- Pitcher's count

1-2 he is at .265-- Pitcher's count

2-2 he is at .211- Pitcher's count

Yep, gobs of success

Let's look at what he has done when the jerk swings on hitter's counts

0-0   .375

2-0  .300

3-1   .462

3-2   .407

Any of this sinking in yet?

His 3 previous season ('05-'07 are very similar save the 3-2 where he has not been good. His 2strike BA for the period is .250

He's hitting in front of A-Rod and Giambi, his job is to get some big hits but more importantly get on base for those guys, even as a #3 hitter.

A #3 hitter should be a good OBP guy.but it is not more important that he get on base for the #4 and #5. He should be the best all aound hitter on the team. He should not be a ,275 hitter waiting till he get's 2 strikes before he swings his bat,the proof is right in front of your face.

he can't just change it in the middle of a season when he has been doing it his whole life.

Are you kidding? What a ridiculous this to say. He is not changing his swing. He needs to have somebody show him the reality of his approach. He could change that in the middle of 1 single at bat... It's not rocket science.

goblue... I would like to know where you got that information... anyway, .235 is still good hitting with 2 strikes, hopefully you knew that before you posted.

YIKES... there are none so blind as those who will not see.

I got mine from http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/playe
rs/splits?playerId=3537

You would rather he be in a count where he hits .235 that swing when he aveages over .333?????????????????????????? Duh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
