I think the Rangers could sneak in and win the west and possibly the series this year, but they shouldn't be giving up their future.  Barry Bonds has been working out every day and says he will play for free.  His on base was .480 last year, which was over 50 points higher than the next best in the majors.  He was in the top 3 in the NL in hr ratio along with Fielder and Howard.  Many of the young Giant hitters in the clubhouse said he was a big help with their hitting.

Would you want to see Bonds sign with the Rangers?

Unless Bonds can pitch 7 scoreless innings every 5th day we have no reason to need him or his huge baggage.

We wouldn't want his entourage and baggage even if he could pitch shutouts every 5th day.

Seriously?  Why would that Rangers want Bonds.  We have more than adequate hitting and DHing.  We are tops in the league as far as runs scored.  What we need is pitching.  There is no way in heck the Rangers are going to get into the playoffs.  They aren't going to win the West against the Angels, and they aren't going to surpass the Red Sox/Rays for the wildcard.  And even if they were able to somehow get into the playoffs, there is no way they can win the World Series.  We don't have the starting pitching, and our bullpen is good but not that good.  The bullpen won't be able to pick up the slack from the SP forever...especially when none of our starters can last past 5 innings.  I am a big Rangers fan, but I have a realistic oulook on this club, and right now I see them barely squeeking to .500 by the end of the season.

1) Sign him to a minor league contract
2) Have him spend 2-3 weeks in minors getting his swing back
3) On July 30 or 31, if he is hitting well flip him for a no-name minor league prospect
IF he is not hitting well, cut him.

Win-win
Bonds gets to play
Rangers never have to have him contaminate the clubhouse with his presence and maybe get some prospect in return.
