Ever since Bruce Weber came into Carbondale and turned the Salukis basketball program around and later went to Illinois, it seems like nobody wants to stick around. Matt Painter went to his alma mater Purdue after one head coaching season. That's understandable and it was a great offer. It seems like coaches use schools like Southern Illinois to make a name for themselves, including assistants, and then go from there. They lost an assistant from last season. It was great for Lowery to come back to town from Illinois after Painter left. It's all about the mid-majors not getting recognition.

wouldn't you leave? The only reason why Lowery is still at SIU is because they threw 750k at him. You can't blame successful coaches for leaving and bettering their lives along with their family. Don't get used to lowery either. If he develops this unbelievable recuiting class into a ncaa power, don't expect him to stay around. he might see them through seniors, but he's gone after that.

They didn't have a very good season , making it to the NIT only. It's was simply an ok season. I do agree with you about Lowery doing the same down the road. As soon as he gets the Salukis back on track it will likely happen soon after.

SIU's recruiting class "should" develop into a dynasty. I'm not sure there is going to be any club in the conference that's going to be able to compete in the next four years.
