We need both a slugging and fielding 1st baseman and it does not look as if Texiera is going to re-sign with the Braves. He would kill two birds with one stone. We would likely have to give up a couple of our best relievers, likely a Chad Tracy to fill Atlanta's need at first base temporarily and likely have to give up a Max Scherzer as well.  We might also get a throw in, promising minor leaguer but Texiera would be what the doctor ordered right now....

The story in the Atlanta papers is that the Braves will wait until after the All-Star break to deal with what to do with Mark Teixeira. If they Braves are still in the race in the NL East, they'll probably keep Teixeira....if not they'll trade him for pitching and/or OF help.

Well..Atlanta starts a 3 game series with the Dodgers tomorrow. Who should we root for? And even if Atlanta loses, who knows whether we would really go after Texiera, but I think we should.

Well the Brewers appear to have made the plunge - it is reported that they are giving up their top prospect (LaPorta) and two other players to get C.C. Sabathia from the Indians.

I wonder if the D'Backs have the guts to do something like that?

The Brewers have a lot more toys to play with in their farm system than we do but I would risk a Scherzer and maybe even a Hudson, who won't sign with us next year anyway, for Texiera. Although I like Hudson a lot and hope he stays...

Actually, I was considering trading Orlando Hudson (along with others)  to Colorado for Matt Holliday. Rockies need a 2B, but they'd have to sign Hudson and, considering the state of the NL West, they could still make a run at the division title. They want pitchers!...Micah Owings, Hudson, and Scherzer??? (I know, I know  - you don't trade within your division)

Atlanta has a young 2B in Kelly Johnson, so I'm not sure they'd have any interest in Hudson. A dark horse might be Xavier Nady from Pitts. He can hit for average but has a history of injuries.

Matt Holliday is likely not going to sign for less than 20 million a year and Colorado is not going to pay that. I agree, yu don't trade within your division, but if it makes both Colorado and Arizona better, who knows?  But unlikley...Nady would be okay but I really think we have a problem at 1st base that we need to address.
