mz, can you control your idiot Kentucky fans here. They seem to be the biggest homers I've ever seen.
The SEC is easily #3 or maybe #2. Some of the teams you list, like St. Johns, were powerhouses years and years ago, even before I was born, which was a damn sight longer than you were. So what? All their victories don't do a thing for the Big East and how they're playing now. The Big 12? Who's won anything, EVER, besides Kansas? If ever there was a one-horse conference, it's the Big 12. Yeah, I'm aware that Ok A&M is now OK State, but that championship was in the 40's.
Read through this section again, and then read through all my posts. That'll answer your questions.

And why can't you use the RPI? Like I stated someone would do, (say you can't go by stats) it's just looking at the numbers, nothing subjective about it, and oh, the SEC was #4 in the RPI last year, not #1 and was weak, as compared to how they usually do. So pick something to compare the conferences with, championships or RPI, otherwise you're just putting out "feelings" about something, and that's just BS.
wordjockey, wordjockey, wordjockey....
I already explained why you can't use the RPI.

No you didn't. Explain, that is.
You are either talking about something different, as in long ago championships, or you have to compare dispassionate numbers. Feelings or stats. Pick one.
I admire your feelings for St. johns and Marquette and Notre Dame, but it does nothing to support a conference strength argument for the Big East.
I'm talking now. Your lifetime, which I'm guessing is about 18 to 20 years.
Acc - best conference, year in and year out. History and championships bear this out. They aren't always #1 in the stats, but oftentimes are, and have been doing it forever. Surprisingly low in titles considering their ranking, but with teams like UCLA and UK and IU taking up 23 of the 71 NCAA titles (32%), the ACC has only so many that could be taken. Yep, nearly 1/3 of all the titles ever among 3 teams, and not a one from what you would call a "strong" or "traditional" conference.
Big east, - maybe the 2nd best, year in and out, but only because they play consistent ball, winning games outside of their conference. Most of what you refer to is old news, or news of a team that has won a championship way before the Big east came to be.
Sec - I'd put them 3rd. Lately. Since the 80's. Wins against OOC and championships. May be tied with the Big Ten for 3rd.
I'd put the Big 12 at 5th, (since a give a tie for 3rd place) Kansas is always great, and there are other teams which are strong, but they can't seem to win the big ones. This year may have broken that logjam for them.
Pac 10, I put as last of the 6 biggies. UCLA has a great history, with more championships than anyone by a large margin, and Arizona has had a good tradition, but outside of that there are occasional strong teams like Stanford, or long ago teams like Oregon. So it's really been a two horse race out west, results-wise.

This would be an awesome game to start the season. UNC would dominate, but it would be a great way to ring in a new college basketball season. Will Kentucky make the NCAA Tournament this year? That will be a great question.
