What does anyone else think about moving Sean Burnett into the starting rotation? I feel like he would be a great replacement for Phil Dumatrait who obviously isn't over his shoulder injury. Burnett has started to get back in his groove during June, but I believe he would be better fit as a starting pitcher. Back in 2004 he came out extremely strong to begin the season posting a 3-2 record with a 2.35 ERA. He was on his way to a great season until injuries inflated his stats and kept him out of baseball for over a year. After battling in the minor leagues and filling in as a middle reliever, I feel like he deserves a shot back into the starting rotation. The Bucco's need some consistent starting pitching. Anyone else think Burnett should get crack?

Beatem, that 2004 Sean Burnett is long gone after his surgeries. The team made the decision this spring that he could no longer be effective as a SP and closed the book on it. Since convertying to the pen he regained some velocity and improved his stuff (something JVB might be able to do). His numbers this year seem to support that notion in that he just can't get righties out at this level. Lefthanders are 6 for 36 (.167avg) with only 2BB against him this year, but righties are tagging him at 23/64 (.359avg) with 17BB. He looks like a valuable lefty specialist, but not a starter option.

You can never have enough good pitching out of the pen. We need to keep him in the pen where he is effective especially with the lack of good starting pitching lately. We need to get a reliable RH in the rotation and JVB is not the answer. I don't know how many teams have 4 lefthanders in there 5 man rotations but I don't like it. Makes no sense to me unless they are all above average pitchers.

I don't see why they aren't giving Ty Taubenheim another chance. He looked pretty good and even showed some pop in his bat and he's much better then JVB.

Sorry BeatemBucs... I don't think Burnett should be in the rotation.  As a matter of fact, I don't think Burnett should be on the 40 man roster.  He's a liability every time he takes the mound.

Dumatrait has been on and off so far.  His last start off the DL was by no means stellar, but it was also his first in a while.  Let's see how he does Sunday against Wellemeyer.

My biggest issue with the starting rotation (today anyway) is Johnny V.  This guy is like the Hydra from Greek Mythology- you cut off a head and it keeps coming back!  How many chances is this guy going to get?  He's a career 2-12 pitcher with a 9+ ERA!- hello... management- this guy isn't good!!!

I would think that Taubenheim's start should have at least earned him start #2.  I'm not saying that you plug him in the rotation, but it's worth a look, isn't it?

Taubenheim is on the AAA DL with a minor sore elbow problem.

I wouldn't say Burnett is worthless he has only allowed 1 ER in his last 10 IP over 8 appearances out of the pen. That's a lot better than most of our relievers.

Good call on Taubenheim- I didn't know he was on the DL.  I'm still not a Johnny V fan... this is directly from the Sportsline preview of tonight's game:

Van Benschoten (1-2, 10.64 ERA) owns the worst career ERA (9.04) in baseball history among pitchers with at least 75 innings of work. The right-hander, a first-round draft pick in 2001, is 1-10 with an 8.82 ERA in 16 career starts, with the lone win coming at home against Houston on Sept. 10, 2004.

WHY???  Why is he on the mound?

And good points about Sean Burnett.  He has pitched better recently.  I'm juts not sold on him.  I think he's damaged goods...
