I vote for stats (the things that a player get based on doing good or bad and what an ALL-STAR vote should be based off of) not by the hometown guy or my favorite player (what most people base their vote off of) but who cares obviously no one because freaking Fukadome made it to the starting line up and he doesn't even deserve to be anywhere near the team. Heck take a look at the Pirates outfield everyone Nady, Bay, and McLouth are putting up better numbers, all the all-star game is anymore is a popularity contest and it makes me sick. I think they should take away vans voting and just go with the managers, coaches, players, and so forth. I like voting, but with fans voting the wrong people make the team. What do the rest of you think?

I agree. It's more or less a popularity contest. If you're an average player for the Yanks, Sox, or Cubs. You have a better chance to get in than someone having a great year for the Royals, Bucs, and Twins.

buccosfan, i agree totally. What a joke. Nady is having a great season and he isn't even in the final 5 vote. If he were playing for the Mets he'd be in already. All 3 outfielders from the Buccos are having All-Star worthy seasons, but only Nate get's in. I really think that Nady was more deserving but that's just my opinion. Did you see that Aaron Rowand is one of the 5 finalists? Granted, he's been a good player, but he has 8 hrs and 43 rbis. Nady despite losing some time to injury has better numbers. I guess if you are in a large city you get preferential treatment?

I vote for stats and how well the player plays the game. This is why I'm Pissed Off Ryan Doumit (Catcher) Pittsburgh Pirates wasn't even on the Ballet. He was, The when he got injured they took him off. But he returned in pleanty of time to place him back on the ballet. He just Smackes # 11 today. He by far is the best catcher in the NL. What a waste of Great Talent

I remember watching the All-Star game as a kid, thinking it was really cool. Since there was no interleague, it was the only time you got to see AL/NL matchups except for the World Series. And the players seemed to want to be there. I just heard John Kruk say today that he thinks about 75% of major leaguers would rather not be in the All-Star Game.
Then with the winner getting home field for the WS, its even more of a joke. If that's the case, that home field is on the line, the manager should be able to pick his team. No voting, no rule about every team having at least one player on the team.
Don't get me wrong, I do like that every team gets someone on the team. As we all know, that's the only way the Pirates get anyone there most of the time. But if that is a rule, I don't think the game should determine home field for the series.

Last I checked, the fans only vote in 9 players from each league; 8 starting fielders and one reserve. The rest of the All-Stars, which is the majority, get voted in by the players and the manager for the team. You do know that fans don't vote any pitchers to the All-Star game, right? All were chosen by their peers and the manager. McLouth was deservedly voted in by his peers, but making it sound like the fans control the entire outcome of who gets selected is simply just plain ignorant.
