I've been seeing the rumors about the Cubs interest in Randy Wolf.

Can someone explain how acquiring him makes the Cubs better?  He's no better than the Marshall/Marquis tag-team.

Yeah, at first I thought Randy Wolf would be a decent addition.  Then I saw his road ERA.  Then I quickly changed my mind.

Road era's speak more of any pitcher that pitches 1/2 of his games at a pitcher friendly park like Pet-Co. The same can be said about Greg Maddux. Look at the road numbers not he home on splits to judge if he is a better option than what is  on the team. If you want to go further Sports line puts out  splits  per park also. Look at their numbers at the favored play off contenders parks to judge them. Dempster is a home pitcher. If the Cubs nab a pitcher it's to give them a better chance on road games in the play offs.

I think the would be hoping for lightning in a bottle. And hoping he returns to his 2002 form. OK seriously now......I don't see this guy bringing in mor ewins than even a Marshall/ Marquis....and I'll even throw in Gallagher.

For what ever reason I think Lou really wants another lefty in the rotation, but to just add a lefty (and make a move) for the sake of doing it is exactly what Milwaukee wants the Cubs to do.

In summary; I think the Cubs would be hoping that he would pitch good coming to a winning team. It's kind of like the Jim Edmonds deal. Get him and hope he does something good.

The Wolf thing hasn't made sense to me from the beginning.  I keep thinking it's either a smoke screen to prevent Billy Beane from thinking the Cubs are locked in exclusively to Harden, or maybe a publicity nod to Lou (who can't stop talking about how much he wants another lefty starter).

Frankly, last year it drove me nuts having 3 lefty starters with big looping curveballs that a team could see back to back.  Seemed like they would start to sit on the curve by the second (or third) game.  Lou has more experience with this than I do, of course, but for my money, I'd much rather have the best possible pitcher on the mound, not make sacrifices to get a mediocre pitcher just to add another left handed arm.

This is a great point guys.  We don't need more pitching.  We need BETTER pitching.  Why a name like Wolf would come up at all is beyond me.  We already have about 4 of him on the team!

No you just nailed it...  We need quality not more of what we already have..  I would rather make no move than give up prospects for a guy like wolf..  The only guy that is worth giving up quality is Harden..  My second option would be Burnett but he is about as consistant as Marquis just with more K's...  Just my two cents..  I say stay put Soriano is coming back soon which would help besides in the playoffs Running Big Z, Dempster, and the Lilly of late aint that bad..

Maybe the Cubs scouts see something in Wolf that others don't?? I know it isn't comparing apples to apples because of the money involved and he was released, and no other players were traded, but Jim Edmonds has been a pleasant surprise.

I am just saying that I think the Cubs scouts out there know what they are doing and Jim does his own scouting and listens to his people. Sometimes even a change of scenery can work magic. I wonder what goes through the Padres' staff minds when they go out there?? Don't think they have to give up 3 or less that day to get a sniff at a W? The Cubs offense has the potential to put some confidence back into some pitchers.
