I agree with this.  But for Richt to be generally regarded as an elite coach, he'll have to win a NC at some point.

Most definitely.

But like you said, he is young, and most other coaches in the SEC that won their NC it was basically because they walked into a good team and brought their style to the table.

We will see what Miles and Meyer are made of this next year once mainly all their recruits will be in place.

Spurrier is still a good coach, but for people to say he is handicapped because he coaches SC means nothing, he has brought in numerous Top 25 recruiting classes there. He isn't what he used to be because there are top notch coaches spread all over the SEC now-a-days. Couldn't really say that back in the 90's.

A question for Dawgs:

Is there any other college job that he would prefer over Goergia?

It seems to me that he may be a Dawg for a long time...as long as he keeps winning, anyway.

I know he wanted to go somewhere that his wife and he could spend the rest of their lives happy.

I think WVU was in the consideration, or somewhere near the coast, can't quiet remember. But #1 priority to him was to go to a place that would be cozy enough to last awhile and raise his children.

Spurrier is one of the greatest coaches to ever coach this game, just because he is not getting talent in South Carolina does not mean he is not a great coach.. I bet if you put the Ol' ball Coach on ANY top 10 team he would go undefeated and win a National Championship.. Heck, he could even win one with Ohio State vs the SEC :P.

08' #23 in recruiting.

07' #31

06' #24

05' #28

So if Spurrier is still such a great coach, why can't he reach Top 25 in the polls, he is certainly getting Top 25 recruiting classes. And since he is such a great developer, these recruiting classes should be the best bang for the buck.

Of course he would, if the talent was given to him. But that's why he took the job at South Carolina... to rebuild the program just like he rebuilt Florida's. Wait... this thread is about Mark Richt, not Steve Spurrier.

Homer answer, he is in the SEC hehe.

But seriously, he is in a division with Georgia, Florida and Tennessee which are three traditionally better programs. Having to play them every year, a long with Clemson, plus either LSU or Auburn usually, you can how hard it is to make much headway with a lower tier school and a schedule like that.

He does need to have a good season this year though. I thought South Carolina would have done a little bit better so far. But remember, he did come within a blocked FG of derailing UF's championship season and going 9-4. He needs to get them over the top though. I think he will as long as he doesn't jump ship for a better opportunity.
