I was just thinking (as another excel file is calculating at work)
Wouldn't it be funny If a GREAT 2nd or 3rd option players like Gordon, Maggette, even Okafor get a $6-7M contract this year (be it the MLE or the 1 year qualifying offer) and the Knicks dramatically overpay in the $6M range for Chris Duhon.
Knicks fans, you are going to be so beyond pissed off that you've got Duhon playing major minutes. He's a solid backup PG, but play him more than 15 minutes (20 minutes on a good day) and he'll drive you crazy with his lack of consistent shooting, his lapses in judgement, and overall is just marginal skills.
He doesn't have many turnovers per minute or assist per minute, but seems most likely to crap out in key moments, and outside of the 2-3 games he'll have each year where he can't miss a shot, he's mediocre at best.
Bulls fans were thinking, well we can resign him if nobody else has interest and we get him for $1-2M....then the Knicks foolishly offer $6M and supposedly say the starting job is his....
Poor NY........there are so many better options for the full MLE than CHRIS DUHON....
Bulls fans are mostly happy to see him and his partying and oversleeping and complaining and lesser talents go.

Yes it would be funny. NY obviously doesn't know the difference between a buyer's market and a seller's market. This offseason is clearly a buyer's market for the 2nd and 3rd tier FA's. Nothing against Duhon, like you said, a good backup, but nowhere near a MLE.

I say give walsh a chance. This is not his first year putting together a team. Will the Knicks win it all next year, no. But, I like having someone there with decades of experience dealing with players and team chemestry.

The Knicks don't want to pay anyone past 2010.(LeBron) Gordon and Maggette are looking for long term contracts.

Yeah, that might be true, but why pay DUHON your entire MLE?!?!?!
I mean they could have done far better going after Livingston (for $3-4M too, taking a slight risk without too much money invested, and if Livingston comes back, they get who could be a fabulous player and an impossible matchup....or gone after Louis Williams, Jannero Pargo, Beno Udrich, Keyon Dooling at the point or possibly the aforementioned guys and others in other positions (or gotten a few pieces) all of whom are more skilled for major minutes than Duh.....
Plus, Duhon's not even a high character guy (his partying ways, missed practices, missed games, missed team busses, etc are all over Chicagoland)....
He won't be missed, and to think a guy who most Chicagoans thought might go for $2-3M went for the full MLE. Sounds like a worse signing than Jarred Jeffries to me.

First off, I would not put Okafor in a 2nd/3rd option category with guys like Gordon and Maggettee. Okafor is clearly a better athlete. Charlotte will likely offer him a max contract and if they don't someone else will.
Since when did the Knicks care about character? LOL Now that was quite hilarious.
Signing Duhon was no worse than the Magic signing Lewis last year or the Wizards signing Arenas this year for $111 million. And as others stated, they want cap space so they are not going to sign guys to long-term deals; which most guys want.
Duhon in a new setting and a good coach; may surprise you. Most players need playing time to become consistent. You rarely expect your guys off the bench to be consistent. Instead they are just needed to provide energy, scoring, whatever. Duhon has a shot at a starting position and a new beginning. Attitude or not; it will be an interesting season for the Knicks who are unlikely to make the playoffs now that Jersey and Philly got much stronger. Yet, their objective may not be that at all. It may be just to evaluate talent til the Lebron sweepstakes. I haven't seen Cleveland do anything to keep Lebron happy. Brand is likely gone to Philly. Next try: Okafor? Tougher as he is restricted. Cleveland is so disappointing.

If Okafor gets a max contract, then that's a mistake. He' | |
