	CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Two-time NASCAR champion Tony Stewart has been granted a release from the final year of his driving contract with Joe Gibbs Racing after ten seasons with the team, sources close to Stewart confirmed for ESPN.com Tuesday night. Stewart will formally announce his departure from the team Wednesday. On Thursday at Chicagoland Speedway, Stewart will formally announce a move to Haas/CNC Racing as co-owner and driver, sources close to Stewart said. Haas/CNC, which currently fields the Nos. 66 and 70 Chevrolets, will be renamed Stewart Haas Racing in 2009. Sources close to both sides told ESPN.com the deal will make Stewart the highest-paid driver in NASCAR.

	I was just about to start a thread, but you beat me to it. It looks like Joe backed offf of the final year of the contract and gave Tony what he wanted. I guess Smokinyota is going to be smokinchevy next year. It looks like one of the cars will have the number 14 on it; maybe 07 or 39 for the second car. I'll be gals to see Tony driving a Chevy again.

	And Mikey, I told you that there was no way that Tony would have waited a year. So much for Rowdy not wanting to be the man in the shop; hes is it next year at Gibbs, the #1 Kahuna.

	And Mikey, I told you that there was no way that Tony would have waited a year. You beat me to it! Haha. But like I said before last week, if Tony wanted out, I knew Joe wouldn't put up a fight or keep him just so he couldn't leave like mikeyfan was proposing he might. It's best for them both to move forward and they're both gaining IMO. It would only be hurting both parties for Stewart to stay another season.

	There was no way that Joe could afford to put up a fight. Tony could have easily ended up taking the entire crew and sponsor with him to Stewart-HAAS Racing instead of just him. I expect that Zippy will stay at JGR, though. Does that make Stewart a half-teammate to HMS drivers since they are using the same equipment?

	NOW THE BIG QUESTION IS WHO WILL BE IN THE 20. DO THEY BRING UP LAGONO A YEAR EARLY OR DO THEY PUT SOMEONE ELSE INTO THE CAR AND WAIT A YEAR AND THEN BRING HIM UP INTO A FOURTH CAR. I WOULD LIKE TO SEE THEM WAIT A YEAR THEN BRING HIM UP IN 2010 TO A FOURTH CAR. JUST MY THOUGHTS
