For those of you that remember, I am/was a Michael Vick supporter in his case, I also said that if he was found guilty then they should throw the book at him. But all this over some dogs? C'mon now, for him to lose so much money in this process, on top of him probably losing his livelyhood as well is too big of a price to pay I believe.

McDonalds is hiring. His "livelyhood" hasn't been taken away...he forfeited it by making stupid decisions with his actions and his money. Now he can go become part of the general workforce like most people.

If they are hiring then I suggest you check it out. Besides thats hardly the point...
Think about it, he's losing millions of dollars, his reputation, and possibly what he does for a living over some dogs. Yes he deserves the jailtime (Although I and several Falcons fans miss him) but this is way too much.

Your thread makes the most sense. All of those other morons who equate dog life with human life are just that: morons. Most of them aren't concerned at all about human kids being beaten, rather their sick little minds have taken a turn to destroy anyone an everyone who doesn't agree that animals are equal to humans. Dog fighting is wrong. Killing dogs is wrong. We humans should take great care in our treatment of animals. But dog fighting has been part of our underground culture longer than many would like to believe. Vick is merely the sacrificial lamb for the animal rights maniacs to brainwash the nation into beng a bunch of unreasonable, depraved idiots who don't know the difference between the value of a human and an animal. Vick has paid more than enough, and should be released now.

The Law is the Law.............He put himself in this situation, and he deserves what any other individual would get.
He should have thought about the consequenses of his actions.

Hoopsisbest, I don't think anybody is saying a dogs life is equal to a human life here. You are a fool if you think that is the point people are trying to make. The point here is that the Atlanta Falcons and the NFL decided that the nature of his convictions were so offensive to the PAYING public that they chose to end their business relationship. My opinion on what he did doesn't matter here. What does matter is that I believe a company has the right to dismiss anyone they feel is bad for the company, which is what the NFL, the Falcons, and all of his sponsors chose to do. Or, do you think employers don't have the right to hire and fire their employees? Vick's convictions and the subsequent punishment levied by the US government and the reaction of his employers are related, but only in the sense of cause and effect, not part of the same sentence. If you had an employee who cost you a bunch of cash and was about to cause you to lose several times that in losses, would you keep him/her? Would you not have the right to dismiss them?
Another point to this is that his bankruptcy protection has nothing to do with the loss of employment and jail sentence. It has everything to do with poor management of money. If you have $20 million, would you not invest some and make sure you have plenty in case of injury, a downturn in the economy, or some other crisis? Vick has to give back what was remaining on his contractual obligation. He gets to keep the part he fulfilled. The fact that he blew most of his money and took out millions more in loans shows that he is no wizard. His life is not over and his earning potential is not over, it has merely taken a turn for the worse. He just figured he had an endless supply of cash. Look at how many people have gone bankrupt because of poor business decisions, a downturn in the housing market, poor investments, savings and loan scams, etc. I don't see anyone calling to have their lifestyles reinstated. He had plenty of money and a storybook life, but he figured he didn't have to answer to anyone. We have to answer to our employers and so does he. I think he now knows that if you are paid by the public, you will have to answer to the public. That's not overboard, over the top, over easy or over anything else. That's life. Welcome to it.

there are probably plenty of people who deserve to get out of prison. vick ain't one. he did the crime, now he has to do the time. doesn't matter if he is a sac. lamb or not. he knew it was wrong and still did it.
also, you have to question the intellegence of someone who would risk so much, just to fight dogs. did he think he was above the law? if so, he will now hopefully learn he is not.
i hope he gets out, has learned his lesson and gets another chance. then doesn't blow it. and let's face it, he WILL get another chance. so, suck it up (figuratively-i hope) and stay in shape. pay your debt to society. then come out and make millions more.
filing bancruptcy is just a business move. when he gets out, then he can make millions w/o paying those he owe. which, if you were one he owed, i bet you'd have another opinion.
i don't like dogs too much. i've had a few. some are ok. but i would never hurt one unless they were trying to harm my family. and if it is a cultural thing, that doesn't make it ok. american culture at one point enslaved a race and viewed minorities and woman as inferior. a segement of german culture attempted genocide. i know this is extreme, but just because something has long been a part of a culture, doesn't mean it's ok. not by a long shot.

and i could care less how long it has been. it is a fact that most serial killers tourture animals. (not saying vick is a SK) it shows a semenal proclivity for violence and enjoying the pain of others.
