And I would expect them to have a couple of game lead by this time next week.
The Dodgers and D Backs play 13 times between July 18th and September 6th.  I can't say I have many good feelings about the D backs prospects right now.......but last year on July 20th the D Backs were left for dead,  4.5 games out and just 2 over .500, and they turned it around with a 21-5 stretch.

Maybe another hot streak is coming. I sure hope so. I can't take much more of this lousy lousy baseball

Eric Byrnes.  If he comes back even semi-hot in the second half then the Dbacks win again like before.  It's not just what Byrnes can contribute,  imo.  He is one of those types of players that,  when he is on,  can supply energy around a clubhouse or dugout.  I know he's not that great of a player,  but like Nick Swisher,  he provides more than just stats to a team.

Byrnes sucks.  He had a lucky May and June in 2007 and parlayed it into a 3 year deal that he shouldn't have gotten.  Don't believe me?  Look up his BABIP for May and June on his splits page at baseball reference. Then compare those BABIP numbers with his career before and after. Flukey, lucky arse two months. And our stupid stupid owners gave him an extension, (forced down the GM's throad) which then pretty much left no space anywhere for

Carlos Quentin
Carlos Gonzalez
Scott Hairston

Stupidest move ever.  Byrnes is  the most glorified 4th outfielder in the game.

Oh...and  while you are looking up his splits, look at what he did in August and September and the post season last year.  He stunk again....like he has EVERY YEAR of his career in the second half.   The D Backs made that second half run last year with almost no help from Byrnes.

He is done for this year anyway.......he has TORN hamstrings, and it requires surgery, but he is resisting.

You know how he tore his Hammy's?  The second day of spring training, getting into sprint races with Chris Young.  HE was so busy screwing around with radio shows, and his stupid Eric Byrnes show on Fox that he wasn't in shape yet, tried to go too hard right off the bat in some stupid macho foot race, tore up his legs.......

Then he hid it from the trainer for a few weeks......by the time the season started it was all "hush hush"....until it just became too obvious. Then he fought the club tooth and nail to go on the DL......refused to do it....until they absolutely had to force the issue.  Some might say gamer. I say selfish. He was in no condition to play and was like 6 for 73 and hurting the team.   Then when his 15 days were up.....he wanted to come right back and fought tooth and nail to not have to take a rehab assignment. But the team insisted....so he went to Visalia, went 1 for 12 in 3 games, came  up, went 2 for 23....and the first time he tried to steal....tore up his hammy again even worse.

Me....bitter much?

You bet I am.

Remember the 3 names we lost due to the Byrnes extension.  They all are far outperforming this clown.

Whatever the D Backs do the 2nd half will be without him.

I thought the NL East was a bunch of teams who were all fighting to lose the division (rather than win it)... but looking at the NL West... they shuold just scrap the entire division.

I don't know about anyone else, but it is kind of hard to get real pumped up about being in first place, when you still have not crested the .500 mark.

The Dodgers are nothing more than a .500 club to begin with.

I'm amazed that the D-Backs are playing so poorly.  They are a much better team than the Dodgers but from the looks of things no one would believe thjat to be the case.
