The stats. you quoted were very informative. Another good fact is where the SEC teams are ranked at the beginning of the year. They have a lot further climb than an OSU or a Michigan every year. Our BCS system is all we have. I have lived in Texas since the early 80's after growing up and going to school in Georgia. I see a lot of teams who are underserving of their rankings and who schedules don't support they deserving a BCS game just because they dominate their conference year in and year out. Sometimes the best teams don't meet and the scores are great for television and entertainment. when both teams score at will it shows how badly the system allows that to happen. Texas in Rose Bowl and USC and Texas were great but no defense. It was who had the ball last and they got there based on very little competition those years. Oklahoma is another example lately. They dominate the Big 12 every year and run up big numbers and lose in major bowl games.
It is very hard for the SEC to field a team undeafeated due to balance. OSU and USC are very rarely challenged and play no championship. They both have more time to prepare and also recover from nagging injuries. The SEC does not have that advantage. All of this also adds to the SEC history of having to fight to get into the BCS game. Being number two and playing in the SEC means a lot more than being number two in the Pack 10 or the Big 10.
Great stuff guys. I hope Georgia gets through their schedule healthy and unbeaten. I think the writers will allow OSU to play for it all again, even if they lose to USC. That is how teams that don't deserve to be there get in.
I love all your posts and Rivals is a wealth of information. Game Day cannot get here too soon. A Georgia Bulldawg is hoping for justice. Thanks guys, I just had to chime in and say hello. I have the same problem with Big 12 people out here. We are all loyal but facts are facts.
