As a life long Penn State fan and someone who also attended the school, so much is being said one way or the other about Joe Paterno.  Here is what i think (for whatever that matters), If you are 2nd on the career victory list, you should be able to set the time and circumstance of how you exit the program, especially if you have done as much for the game and the school as he has. Not only is he one of the finest coaches ever, but he also gives to the community and the school. I personally would love to see Tom Bradley take over for him when he does retire, but until I hear Joe say it's time to step dow, then I say Spanier should recognize everything that Joe stands for and give the Legend his rightful due.

Michigan fan here, being this is JoePa`s last season on his contract and he has not signed a new one I`am guessing he is going to retire but no one should push him out the door, he is one of the greatest coaches of all time, having said that I think JoePa should have alot of say of who is going to be the next coach at Penn St

agreed, Joepa is one of the greatest college coaches of all time.  But at some time, a fighter needs to realise he needs to hang his gloves up...

You're right. JoePa has earned the right to choose his own timetable though. He is a true living legend of college football. When he retires it will be a sad day for college football. As a former recruit ( didn't go though. too far from home for my parents. ) I will mourn the retirement of Mr. Paterno. He is a gentleman and a friend to every former player of his that I met.

I think he sees the writing on the wall though. He is having trouble with his players off the field. I never see that as the coaches fault though. These players today are coming out of environments where they worship thugs and thats what they want to be.

It will be a truly sad day when he retires. I will certainly miss seeing him on the sidelines on Saturdays and it will be a loss to college football. His contributions to the game of football at the college and pro levels are too numerous to count.
