The Brewers went 7-22 in games Capuano pitched in last year.  The thing is they won the first 7, and lost the next 22.  Capuano has completely fallen apart.  After the Brewers released Claudio Vargas, it made room for Capuano to return though, because we all know Ben Sheets should be on the DL within the next two weeks for a hangnail.  No way if Capuano returns in the middle of the season that he should take Manny Parra's spot in the rotation away from him after pitching poorly for over a year.  If he comes back, he's a long reliever or staying with AAA Nashville until September.

It's not as though Capuano pitched bad in all of those games.  Granted, some of them were terrible, but there were many of those that were blown by the bullpen.  Good luck trying to come back this year, in any capacity.  I'd like to see him pitch and pitch well, especialy if the starters are doing well enough that Capuano ends up as a long reliever.  Then he can easily step in when Ben Sheets sits for a bumped funny bone...

He won't be coming back. This isn't the kind of thing you can rehab. He needs Tommy John surgery, but he's trying to avoid it.

And he's already had Tommy John surgery once before, which is probably why he doesn't want to have to do it again.  Maybe he can work into a relief role, otherwise I think his career is nearing an end.

What does he rehab first, his elbow or his psyche?

He's going to have to become a righty if he has any more elbow troubles.

No matter what happens, he will be back either this year or next.  He would probably be in the minors though or a possible injury replacement late in the year.

Capuano's throwing motion puts a lot of stress on the elbow. Will rehab work? Probably not, just because of the reason I mentioned. I do not think he will be any kind of factor this year. He can try a few weeks of rehab before he realizes that he is still going to need surgery.

I really thought Capuano would be solid for a long time after his 2006 season. He didn't pitch as bad as you would think for a 0-22 slide, so I really thought he had bounce back potential.

What it does is ruin what the Brewers had in terms of depth in starting pitching. After trading away Inman to the Diamondbacks for Linebrink and now this injury, the Brewers need to stay healthy. That's a tall order when Sheets is on the staff.
