While the Steelers will probably still be tough, they lost a Pro Bowl Guard and really didn't gain much else. I know they still have the draft, but I think the Browns additions will overtake them.
The Browns seriously beefed up their D-Line with Rogers and Williams, and the offense should be even better with Stallworth as the #2 receiver. Their core offensive players are young and the O-Line may be one of the best in the game with Thomas and Steinbach anchoring the left side. Consider that LeCharles Bentley may actually be healthy and that they didn't lose anything on the offensive line, they could be scary and should field a top 5 offense. If their defense is just average, they will get double digit wins.
The team that I think missed their window is the Bengals. They should have done a lot more with the talent they had over the last 3 or 4 years, and getting only 1 playoff appearance out of that is pretty weak. They lost their best defensive player in Justin Smith, and it seems like they are declining again. Chad Johnson is a tremendous distraction and Lewis can't seem to do anything with this defense. I see double digit losses on the horizon for this team.
As for the Ravens, age is finally catching up with them. They have no QB, and losing a Pro Bowl, Hall of Fame Left Tackle is not something that is easy to replace. Other than McGahee, their skill position players stink, and while there is still some talent on D with Suggs and Ed Reed, Ray Lewis is a shadow of his former self. I think they will have a season very simiilar to the one that they had a year ago.
My predictions:
Browns-10-6
Steelers-9-7
Bengals 6-10
Ravens 4-12

the Browns had a bottom 5 defense, and is now sposed to becomes average? plus, the browns had the second easiest strength of schedule by opponents' record last year. (fortunately the Steelers had the easiest)
they are not the team to beat.

With the Browns new d linemen they will be able to put Berger boy on his kester and not let him run for a first down on 3rd and 18. Neither are the Steelers. Last year doesn’t matter. The browns will have a different looking team on d with a new coordinator. There defense cant get much worse so they should be a little better then last year.

Outhouse... dont be angry because your team simply can NOT beat the Steelers, and don't be angry that our quarterback is a quarterback... not a one-hit-wonder who gets a ton of success throwing against horrible defenses. Mark my word, both the steelers and the Ravens will have a better season than the Browns.

Are you serious? your a running team! it don't take much talent to hand the ball off. He threw over 200 yards only twice last year and made it to the pro bowl. its a joke. statistically he gets sacked one out of every 10 times he drops back! i see him as a part time player that still manages to screw things up. he gave your post season away and your still all for? the Steelers are nothing without parker, ben makes little difference. that is unless you wish to be sacked.

And here I thought Spergon Wynn was headed to the Halll of Fame. Thanks for the heads up and the incredible radar for sarcasm.

By the way, we all know that the Steelers have won 9 in a row or whatever and 15 out of 16. By no means is that trivial and they are the division champs until unseated. However, I think the Browns have passed them talentwise and were very close last season.
As for free agency or non-draft choice pickups meaning little, it seemed to mean a lot to the Patriots last year. They added Randy Moss, Wes Welker, and Donte Stallworth via trades or free agency and went to the Super Bowl.
The Browns core is home grown talent. Edwards, Winslow, Joe Thomas, and Josh Cribbs were Pro Bowlers drafted or signed as undrafted free agents (Cribbs) by the Browns. They have supplemented with free agency, as do most teams.
Is free agency the only answer? No, its not. But you sure can supplement with it. Look at Reggie White and the Packers. Look at Deion Sanders with the 49ers and Cowboys in the 90's. Look at this years Patriots. Look at the Eagles and Terrell Owens.
The Browns added 3 impact players to a team that was 10-6 last season. How is that a bad thing? Shaun Rogers is a two time Pro Bowler, Corey Williams was the Packers franchise player, and Donte Stallworth is an excellent #2 receiver (consider that he is #3 on the Browns with Winslow).
These are moves to get an already good team over the top, by filling holes with impact players which is very differen than Dan Snyder's idiotic and nonsensical signings.
We'll see on the field, but I predict a split next year of the Browns/Steelers games and the Browns winning the division.

sper i wouldnt say u got 3 impact players ok i will give u Corey Williams but how will he transition into the 3-4 that is what defense u play right? Shaun Rogers great player when he wants to be but hes been sketchy and hes well on his way to eating his way out of the nfl he has about maybe ill be nice and say 3 years left and you are nuts if you think stallworth is an "excellent" number 2 reciver no one wants him and u paid way too much he was a 4th string reciver and u traded away your future with those draft picks for a player who had one good year williams a fat semi motivated aging rogers and overrated stallworth sure those pick ups look good on paper lets wait and see them play before we crown this the most brilliant free agent/trade moves ever i honestly think this will hurt the Browns maybe not next year but in the next five years i could see if u were a few guys away from a superbowl but u guys arent..........please brownies keep trading away your future fo | |
