Absolutely UNLV is a big rival in basketball as well as football. These are the only two in-state universities, and even when one team dominates the other in either sport, they are still big rivals. They recruit in the same areas, and a lot of athletes from southern Nevada come up to Reno and vice-versa. Nevada basketball's recent success has helped level the playing field on the basketball court which makes the games more competitive and possibly meaningful on a national level. Playing in the same conference would only enhance the rivalry.
