The Big 12 had the best players in the nation the last two years and shocker- neither team they played on made to  the Sweet 16.  Maybe college sports are still about team and teamwork!  You can't buy tradition and you can't compete with history because you have the best player.  I hope schools of rich tradition and history stay away from the one and done players and stick with building there teams on a 2 or 3 year basis.  What if Durant and Beasley would have stayed for 2 or 3 years and had those seasons to compete against one another imagine how good this would have made each teams not to mention the conference.  Duke lost several players  over the last 8 seasons that could have kept them in the running for several more national titles if they would have stayed.  Gosh, Roy wouldn't have won a national title if not for Duke losing at least 2 or 3 players a year there for a while.   That is why the ACC was down this year.  They keep losing there top players for the draft.

Well said!! For the wannabes the one and done players can generate enthusiasm for the program that may take them up a notch or two. Texas was impressive this year without Durant. Time will tell if they can maintain the momentum. They were decent before Durant.

Beasley raised the Wildcats from the cellar. It may be tough for them to stay out of it but at least their fans got a taste of success. I'm looking forward to seeing how it plays out. They've had a few teams over the years that were competitive and I hope they keep it going this time.

It was Bill Huggins who revived K-State year before last (actually won more games than this year's team). His two great recruiting classes left K-State with great talent. This year, Frank Martin kept the train on the track when they lost their best returning player (Hoskins was on the all conference team for Huggins) and took the freshman-dominated squad into the field of 64 where they won against a higher seeded Pac-10 opponent. Nothing leads me to believe the Wildcats will disappear from the upper echelon of the conference any time in the near future.

I think Frank Martin could be a decent coach.  At the begining of the season everybody said he couldn't coach, he was just there to make sure Beasley didn't decommit.  At the very least we know that he can substitute with the best of them.  The way he kept Walker and Beasley in the game when they were in foul troulbe, I don't think I've seen that before.  Maybe that destroyed continuity for the team, but it kept the offense coming.  And without Beasley and Walker, Pullen is not as effective.  We'll see in coming years, but I think K-State may have just "stumbled" onto a good coach.

Being a wildcat fan I can't be more excited about our future.  Next year is a big question mark, but there are things to look forward to.  We can now see if Martin can coach a more balanced team and get scoring from different players when needed.  I'm exited to see the recruits that are lined up for 2009, Wally Judge and McGruder.  They sound like solid players from what I read,  I also like what I see in the returning players from last year they should all get better and that is all we can ask for.

It will be interesting to see what the Cats do over the next few years, definitely recruiting has improved.  I give Huggins credit for the 'rebirth', but I also have to admit that Martin surprised me this year.  I was one of those who doubted his ability to coach earlier in the season, but he proved me wrong and turned out to be pretty darn good.  I think he has the ability to recruit above and beyond what is expected (and that's relatively high).  He relates well to the players and has the ability to take players with troubled pasts (Walker, Beasley, the dude transferring from Miami) and get them to buy in to him.  I don't necessarily like their "style" of play on the offensive end, but I expect that to change as Martin grows as a head coach.  Big XII will be fun.  And in reference to the initial post, some very good points.

I totally agree with the one and done player. Last time I checked 5 against 1 is a pretty good asswhipping.

I'm glad KU hasn't went after alot of these players.  However I did hear we were in the running for the Favors guy next year but none of the recruiting sites say KU is.

Maybe I just made that up.

It is fun to think about all of the big time college basketball players to run through the big 12.......  it was about time we scored a championship for us and the conference
