What a day!

first Josh Harrellson commits to our CATS and now news is out that top 10 (5 star) PF recruit from class of 2010 has also committed to come to the Big Blue Nation.

It is good to be a Wildcat fan.

BTW expect more big news in the days to come.  Rumor has it that Vinny Zollo from the class of 2011 is expected to verbal as early as next monday.

Does Gillispie ever sleep?

I for one have given Billy G's recruiting a TON of S&!t over the last couple of weeks. Although I am not impressed that we outlasted St Louis to big a big slow JUCO in Harrelson, I am completely impressed with landing this Ferguson kid. Could be a wind of change that UK really needs

The 2010 season I think will mark the end of the rebuilding process and the beginning of the reloading process. I think we may have a breakout season before then, possibly even this season, but as for being ranked consistently in the top 10 every year I think that will begin with the 2010 season. Go Cats!!!

Here is the interesting thing about all of these recruits.  I have been trying to find video on all of them and scouting reports.  The video backs up the scouting report when I can find them, but here is the deal.

All of the players BCG has brought in can hit the court and play at a highly skilled level.  There are no real projects.  Go look at highlights of Miller, Liggins, Euton and Hood (Just google for them they are out there).  These guys can all already play.  Even his walkons are shooting like high 40% from 3.  Euton take jumpers from three and can create off the dribble, has great hands, and can pass at 6'9".  Miller is a beast, this kid can hoop.  Hood has great skill as well.  Liggins was probably the least impressive one of the four that I mentioned and the guy obviously has excellent ball handling skills.  The list goes on an and on.  I mean you have Harrellson which no one thinks is a star but has a nice game and is a big body (but we don't need another Pat we need someone to complement Pat).  Ferguson, which the scouting reports say the kid is dynomite.  Galloway, the guy average 8 or 9 assists in 20 minutes of play per game at the JUCO level.

Seems like Tubs had a habit of bringing in guys which may or may not pan out.  I mean look at the players on the team now (Coury, Carter, Williams, Harris, Stevenson, Stewart, Meeks, Porter, and Jasper).  With the exception of Meeks and Jasper, these guys all had things to work on to earn playing time.  Contrast that with this with BCG's first two classes (Pat, Legion, Liggins, Miller, Harrellson, Galloway, Slone) - These guys, from top to bottom will hit the floor and play from day 1 or at least within the first season.  Think about the two teams you would have if you played one another, who would win after a seasons worth of practice together.

Team A: Jasper - PG, Meeks - SG, Harris - SF, Stevenson - PF, Williams - C, with Coury, Carter, Porter, and Stewart off of the bench.  Who scores for team A?   Meeks and that's all.

Team B: Liggins- PG, Slone (Legion if he were still around) - SG, Miller - SF,  Pat - PF, Harrellson - C, with Legion and Galloway off the bench.  Who scores for team B? Pat, Miller, Slone, Harrellson, Legion - and the story is Galloway can score he just chooses not too and Liggins looks like he will get his to the basket at 6'6".

Now if you go minus 1 and plus 1 for fairness:  Team A gets Bradley, Crawford, Morris, Orbzut, Perry, and Thomas.  Team B: gets Euton, Ferguson, possibly Hood, Wall, and Sidney.

Team A now has four legit scorers: Meeks, Crawford, Morris, and Bradley.

Team B now has 8 or 9 guys that can score: Pat, Miller, Slone, Legion, Harrellson, Euton, Fergonson, Hood, Sidney.

Get my point, the talent level from an offensive prospective is improving tremendously.  I was and am a Tubby supporter but I really think that his recruiting the wrong mix of talent has put us in this funk for the last three seasons. That's not a knock on Tubs or any of the current players because I really think Meeks,  Jasper, and Stevenson (an outside chance at Harris) will show us something special before it is all done.

I am really getting excited about UK basketball for the future, it looks really bright.

Well there really isn't a wealth of knowledge about him yet since there isn't a whole lot on 2010 players yet.  But the little we know is definately outstanding.  He's the #8 rated player in his class, and is described as a combo forward with inside/outside skills.  From the sounds of things looks like he resembles a tayshaun prince type player.

And in response to always true blue, tubby's first few classes started out very strong too though.  Prince was a top 10 player in his class, and both bogans and stone were top 5 players in the next years class.  So its not as if tubby started out recruiting guys like carter/williams/porter and such.  Hope BGC doesn't suffer the same fate.  Tho I doubt that'll be the case.  UK is going to garner alot of respect with the play of patterson next year among prospects, and the 2010 class should end up being loaded with at least 6 scholarships availible at that point in time, and potentially more depending on what patterson does draftwise.

I think for this year, miller is going to be our standout.  my brother plays in all sorts of leagues and last summer he played against miller and miller tore them up and he looked amazing.  My brother doesnt say that very often.  Especially since he HATES uk.  He is always bashing our players even if he knows they are good.  So the fact that he can't even lie about miller makes me very excited about him.  hopefully i dont get let down.

Miller really didnt have to try when he played most of the teams in Kentucky, but when he did, he could straight ball. But did he play national ranked powerhouses day in and day out? no. So i wonder how he will do in college. I believe he will be good, maybe 10-11 points, but im telling you DeAndre Liggins will be much more coveted by the end of the year.

Ya I believe that Liggins will play a bigger role on the team that Miller simply because there is such a logjam of players at the 3/4 now.  Miller will definately play but he'll have to split minutes with more people.  Whereas I kinda suspect that the competition at point will be pretty much between liggins and galloway with liggins eventually winning the job.  But who knows, there is alot of time between now and then. Plus While i assume if jasper stays he'll play the 3 again, there is the possibility of him moving over to the 1 as well.  So we'll just wait and see.

It's good that Gillispie is recruiting players for the future, but I wonder how well they can work together. I think the 2009-2010 season should be good since we will have somebody at the point guard spot in case Jasper leaves. Go Cats!!!

Well I'm not sure where you heard that yesterday was the last day to transfer, but I dont think thats the case.  Indiana has 2 guys who are about to transfer, purdue's scott martin is expected to transfer and isn't even taking his first visit (to notre dame) for another 2 weeks.  I'm pretty sure that at least martin who's been thinking about this for a while would have transferred by now if may1 was really the limit, as he would have just committed himself to sitting out another semester.  KSR is reporting that there could be an announcement from jasper as soon as early next week and it wasn't looking good.  But we can always hope.  I'd love for him to stick around.
