Sorry for the lengthy rant but this drives me crazy.  Any argument against a playoff system is ridiculous except that the Big 10 and Pac 10 are greedy and don't want to find out who the best team is because it won't be one of them (except possibly USC).

A meaningless game between Ohio St and Michigan at the end of the season?  Are you serious?  And even if that was true, isn't that better than a meaningless BCS bowl game?  If there are only 4 playoff spots and you lose your last game it would take a crazy set of circumstances for that loss not to hurt your chances of making the playoffs so I don't see how that game is meaningless.

The lack of ad revenue?  Are they seriously saying they don't think they'd find someone to sponsor playoff games, even though the article makes the point that the NCAA bowl games are huge money-makers and that ABC/ESPN would love to get them back?  Doesn't make sense.

They think there will be more controversy by having more teams in a playoff?  How many people actually care who just missed the NCAA basketball tournament once the tournament gets going?  No one because the teams that actually deserve a shot at the title are there.  The more playoff teams means less controversy, not more controversy.

The Big 10 and Pac 10 (except USC) are afraid that if they actually have to win a game against a good team to play in a national title game they will never get there because those conferences are completely overrated (except USC).  They end their regular season a week earlier than the other conferences and don't even play a conference title game because you have a better shot of going the the BCS championship on reputation alone the less games you play against good teams.  And then they know that they will get an undeserved dump truck full of money for automatically going to the boring Rose Bowl game no matter how many other, better teams deserve to be in a BCS game.(Illinois?!?)  They have no respect for the fans.

Meanwhile the SEC and Big 12 teams have to go through a murderer's row of quality conference rivals to figure out who wins the real conferences and only occasionally will a team from those conferences actually go to the BCS championship game because someone like Ohio St wins 11 games against awful competition and then embarrasses themselves in the national title game year after year.  Everyone knows that the SEC and Big 12 would destroy the Big 10 and Pac 10 but all the Big 10 and Pac 10 care about is getting a bigger share of a smaller piece of the pie.

Unfortunately for the Big 10 and Pac 10 they don't care what the fans want because they want to protect their own at the expense of the game.  You know what you get when you put together greed at the expense of the game, undeserving title contenders, no transparency in deciding who gets a shot at the title and ignoring what fans want?  You get boxing.  That's where the BCS is headed.

I agree except for how the Pac 10 is over-rated.  Easily the second best conference.  The reason we don't have a conference championship is that we play every team in the conference once.  If each conference did that with 12 teams they would have too many games.

the pac 10 is not easily the 2nd best conference.  when ranking conference strength the only sure thing is that the SEC is #1.  the rest of the pecking order is arguable. but i will say the big 12 is better than the big10 (a.k.a. small 11 since their are 11 teams), the big east is better than the acc, and the pac10 can be anywhere between 2-5. i won't put them at 6 cuz they will at least be better then either the big10 (who somehow got destroyed in 4 bcs games in only 2 years) and the acc (only 1 bcs victory since the creation of the bcs and that was the 99fsu team over now current acc member vt). those 2 conferences can't beat anybody of signifcance out of conference.  say what you want about the big east, they maybe short on teams but they have won 3 straight bcs games and went 5-0 in bowl games 2 years ago.

Build it and they will come and if they dont,  they can play a measly Rose Bowl by themselves.

PREACH ON BROTHER!  I agree with you totally.  If they had schedules like the SEC then they probably wouldn't mind a playoff.  But when you have such ease with playing nobody's why would they want to change.

Yeah, the Big 10 is terrible-- that must be why Michigan has ripped apart the sec throughout history (including Florida, twice in the past few years... haha.)

You sec fans need to get over yourselves; you may have a good conference but you're not far and away the best in college football like you seem to think.  You have your terrible teams like Vandy, Ole Miss, Miss st., and Kentucky just like we have our perennial losers.  Michigan and OsU can go head to head with the sec's best just about every year and chances are they'd win at least one of the games.

And what's with the Big 12 being a power conference I read here?  Oklahoma and Texas?  Really I wasn't aware two teams made them a dominant conference.  Maybe in 5 years if KU and Mizzou actually prove they're more than one and done miracle teams we can have a discussion about the Big 12.

Can't wait to hear all the lovely things sec fans have to say to me.

sorry ozark, osu can't go head to head with the SEC, in fact they are winless against the SEC including 2 major blow outs in the last 2 national championships, one of which they were heavily favored due to their dominance over the weak big10/small11.

Don't forget to lay blame at the feet of Notre Dame.  They want to keep the BCS because they have the easiest requirement to get into a BCS game.  Too bad they stink and can't win games.  Notre Dame doesn't want to have to share any more money with other teams.  If there is a playoff they may have to find a conference.

I agree.... The CBS Sportsline CF forum has the biggest reputation for ignorant and stupid SEC types in all of cyber CF discussions. Other sites joke about it all the time...the collective idiocy of these SEC supremists that post here. ( there are some thinking and astute SEC fans, of course )...but  collectively ?

Like this clown who perceives the' tough' SEC gauntlett.......he has no clue that there have been 57 undefeated  SEC teams in 76 SEC seasons , or one per every 1.3 seasons, which happens to be the highest rate of undefeated teams among any conference for those 76 years.

SEC mythology ...it's truly comical
