Not to say that alfonzo didn't deserve to be suspended for testing positive but am i the only one out there who thought the Giants were- um... immune to drug testing or at least MLB's policy towards that?  Can you say Barry Bonds? Hopefully i'm not the only one getting a good chuckle out of this.  I do feel bad for this guy, but it's still kinda funny- the MLB'll suspend a guy in AAA but when it comes to superstars, let's just let the public crucify them instead of actually dealing with them via the actual rules.

I wonder if had Barry's old locker and sat in a puddle of the "clear"?

The Giants were immune to drug testing?  You did read the Mitchell report right?  There were many Giants' players listed.  I think it is very safe to assume that every team has PED issues that will take some time to resolve.

Yeah. Giants were 1st among the NL Teams on the list, 3rd overall on the Mitchell Report. These guys are blessed to receive only 50 games. They should be suspended the full season so that stuff has time to get out their system completely.

Barry Bonds (and every "superstar", for that matter) has been subject to precisely the same drug testing and penalty procedures since the plan was implemented.  Bonds got tested for the same stuff just as often as anybody else, and never tested positive.  There are no "rules" that apply any punishment for consistently negative tests.

M2thaC1369.....Cool it a bit on your post ratings.  You've gone hogwild with rating folks in which you couldn't have actually read and been objectionable on your rating.  You don't give 1 star for ratings to which you disagree.  You give 1 star for absolutely inane arguments.  Very few deserve that.  Just a tidbit of info to help you out.  You should be superstar status, but your bad ratings have caused many members to rate you equally bad on most of your posts out of mere retaliation.

read the book - all this is explained.  Bonds got advance warning of impending tests. Without a smoking gun... of course it's the schleps of the league who pay the price, the guys who fight to stay pro players. What if your job security depended on whether or not you could do the impossible daily, and all you needed to stay consistent (and feed your family) was a brief shot in the ass every few weeks?

Bonds, himself, was tested many more times than anyone else in the league, especially last year. If he recieved advanced warning, than obviously whoever was giving this warning is an idiot and should be blamed. He passed every test, and honestly, do you think he was still actually doing anything after the scrutiny that followed BALCO? I'll give you that he was probably using before testing, but I dont see him taking the same risks afterward. Maybe he had some undetectable stuff again, but I think if anyone in the league needed to distance himself from a failed steroid test, it was Barry.

Also, the fact that he played on the Giants doesnt mean that there is a steroid factory under ATT Park or that every other player weve had is doing steroids.

I didn't feel like starting a new thread to say this, but I think Alfonzo should have gotten his money back. I'm not sure what performance is being enhanced, because he can't make the Giants' roster, as even a BACKUP. When Mike Cameron is the biggest name to actually be busted (albeit not for necessarily the same thing...) it does make you wonder how some guys like Bonds, Clemens, Sosa, Tejada etc seem to be able to dodge punishment.

You only get punished if you fail a drug test.  Simple as that.  Being named in the Mitchell Report will not get you punished.
