From ESPN: Hunt has all the intangibles (frame and athleticism) to be an elite four-man down the road, but a lot has to happen for that to occur. Hunt has an outstanding frame with broad shoulders, long arms, and overall very good length. He is very bouncy and gets up twice before most get up once. He is a very good rebounder with excellent hands and he can grab alley-oops with ease and finish. Despite his athletic prowess, his post skills are almost non-existent other than a drop-step every once in a while. He consistently brings the ball down and his footwork needs some serious refining. In addition, he appears to lose his composure on occasion. Defensively, he is an inexperienced post defender, but he has excellent timing in the shot blocking department. If Hunt works on his post game and develops a consistent 15 foot jump shot, he will garner some division one attention this coming season.
Yeah, I've been following this story for a while now. Was between us and LBSU. He sounds like a player that fits our program quite well. Long, Athletic, bouncy. Also, they said he plays fiery and has a nack for getting the rebounds. That's a big bonus considering there's a gaping hole right now for us. He's a proven winner too, with his team posting a 44-3 record last year. 6-8, 223 and only 18 years old. He has a chance to maybe grow an inch or so before the season even starts. I look forward to him joining our Wolf Pack.
Welcome Dario.
P.S. Looking good grabbing a 6'8+ guy and we have another scholarship. That's good news. On another note, I read that Doug Novsek was the recruiter he felt the most comfortable, just like McLaughlin. Keep up the good work Doug.
I'm not too concerned about his lack of offense. I think Nevada will have plenty of talented offensive players to more than carry the load. I like that he is an aggressive defender with an ability to block shots and rebound. That is really what Nevada needs. He will get his offense on put backs. We just need him to defend.
I wish he was a little taller. He's listed at 6'8". But, I've read elsewhere that he's 6'7". I'd like to see Nevada pick up a legitimate center - ideally someone 6'10 - 7'0"".
Nevertheless, he was a great addition to this recruiting class. Things are looking good. I hope Fox uses the final scholarship wisely.
Hey guys. Leave it up to freeswilli to post exactly what I was thinking. We don't need too much scoring out of him with all the potential sharp shooters that will be on the floor. Supposedly he is a beast on the defensive end. If he's only 18 then there is a good chance he will get taller. Definately bigger.
BTW silvernblue, it's about time to get rid of that avatar of yours...lol. I almost want to say good riddance.
I think this is a great pick up. Best case scenario, he will become a Paul Milsap type player. Rebounds every ball that comes near him, and can score some too. He has a really nice frame and should fill our nicely. He may be 6'8", but I'd rather have 6"8" rebounding machine than another David Ellis. And as long as he doesn't get scored on 66% of the time like McGee things will be all good.
I'm sure Fox is looking for another Big man, but don't be suprised if we just go with best player available. Just a thought.
And thanks Howlz, I forgot that was still my avitar. I'm going old school with my new one. All of you had better know who he is.
Nice SnB! It's none other than Deshone Myles. LB extaordinaire from the 90's Too bad his NFL career was cut short b/c of injuries. Arguably the best defensive stud the Wolf Pack has ever had. We could sure use another one like him.
Congrats to Nevada on this commitment. This guy went to my high school his Junior and Senior year and was an absolute beast. He is one of the hardest workers I have ever seen. And unlike lots of players, he won't have any issues with grades or other things that may keep him ineligible to play. I think you will be pleasantly surprised with what Dario has to offer.
greenbayman, thanks for the personal insight about Hunt. It is refreshing to hear that he has a good head on his shoulders. His high school coach also says that he is very coachable. Those are both attributes that are very valuable and can often times be overlooked. I think that Nevada will have a good group of talented, coachable, and respectful kids next year. I'm looking forward to this team for the next several years - and to see which recruit Fox pulls out of his sleaves to fill the last scholarship.
When is Hunt going to sign his letter of intent?! I heard that he was going to do it on Monday. I haven't heard anything since. I hope he signs soon so we can lock down another big man.
He sounds like a kid with a good head on his shoulders. He should be disciplined after attending a military academy. He may be a little rough around the edges - check out his myspace page: http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=47831433. Nevada does need to add some toughness - they were too soft last year.
