Or at least, if you don't care for horse racing, don't lecture those of us who do.

Unfortunately, breakdowns are a part of horse racing.  Thoroughbreds are born and raised to race -- that's all they know, and that's why Eight Belles kept running after she was hurt.  Would plowing a field be better for these horses?  Or being ground into dog food?

No, none of the things you mentioned would be better. But what would be better is if breeders would breed toward an animal with more substantial bones in their legs.

I love horse racing, but the fact is that we are breeding in a horse that is bound to break down under the same circumstances a thoroughbred is put through. Horse racing would be better served to develop and animal that isn't suseptable to these kinds of injuries. The development of synthetic tracks has helped, but it's not the final answer.

Luckily us humans don't have a history of killing other humans and not thinking twice about it.  I mean imagine our society if we granted women the "right" to kill their children before they were born!

I just hope that this notion of playing God doesn't make it's way to us thinking we can kill other innocent humans because we think it's what should happen.  I can't imagine how horrible a society would have to be if people were passionately defending their desire to euthanize other humans.  Well lucky for us we're still civilized right?

Hey dummy, the point isn't that Eight Belles was a beautiful horse bred and trained for racing...It was that it is barbaric to just kill horses because they won't be able to race.  My father loved the track, and I went with him....But I didn't get the draw.  Sure, gambling is fun, and horses are beautiful, but the murdering of animals because they no longer fit into "the plan" is demented.

Plowing a field?  Dog food?  You're a class A idiot...THE POINT IS THEY MURDER THE HORSES.  DUMMY!
