And Doyel's not alone...

I know a lot of people who have the same complaints about NBA basketball, and I think there is something to be said for them. Some people need consistency. I say some people because I'm not one of them. One of the reasons I can always watch a full game of basketball without getting up at some point and raging away from the TV is that I don't really mind the chaos. Call something, Doyel suggests. Easier said than done. I don't think it's always obvious what the call should be. I'm not a trained professional basketball referree like Doyel, my dad, and everyone else I know who complains about the calls during a basketball game though but it seems to me that the call or non-call at the end of a game doesn't neccessarily have to be the result of commissioner tampering.

Basketball is just a chaotic game, man. Think about arguments you get into in your pickup league. You think you were fouled? Weak sauce! That's hoops for ya. Thing is, the issue doesn't matter so much until it's compounded by the importance of a game being close at the end. I can imagine that if you disliked the chaos of basketball originally, the end of a game would only be that much harder to watch. There are times I feel that too.

On an unrelated note, the thing I liked most about this article is that Doyel mentioned the fact that the people who play the game have changed (by human evolution if nothing else) and yet the hoop hasn't been raised to 10 1/2 feet yet. As I mentioned earlier, I play pickup ball (several times a week if possible) and while I am a decent athlete and an above-average basketball player the games I play in have absolutely nothing in common with the pro game. Those guys are just too big. It's like putting an Irish Wolf hound in the same back yard with a Chi Tzu. One needs more space because they are vastly different specimens. I don't really think things need to change, it just freaks me out.
