In my opinion, Kobe Bryant should not be the MVP of the NBA.  Chris Paul is the real MVP.  The NBA gave him the MVP award because this is probably his best chance in his career to win the award and his team won the Western Conference.  It's kind of like a lifetime achievement award.  If that's not convincing enough, just look at the stats:

Kobe Bryant:  28ppg, 6.3rpg, 5.4apg, 1.84spg, 3.13TO/g, 1.73a/TO ratio, 46%FG, 36%3PT, 84%FT

Chris Paul:  21ppg, 4.0rpg, 11.6apg, 2.71spg, 2.51 TO/g, 4.50a/TO ratio, 49%FG, 37%3PT, 85%FT

Chris Paul won in assists, steals, fewer turnovers, assist to turnover ratio, field goal percentage, three point percentage, and free throw percentage.  Kobe won in pointsand rebounds.  The stats don't lie!

I think kobe also won in blocks.. (i could be wrong)..  Kobe is also a more versatile cuz he can play with his back to the basket, he can drive in, or take the jump shot... plus i think its hard to compare the two with stats. One is a PG so his assists are obviously going to be higher and the other is a SG so his points will be higher...You also have to take into account that most of the time kobe guards the other teams best player. Also, at the end of the game who would you rather have Kobe or Paul..

vikboltz. I believe Kobe deserved the MVP award.  He's fantastic.  However, you and everyone that says Kobe guards the best player on the opposing team every night is just wrong.  He doesn't.  If you watched games this season, you would know that he guards a guy about his height who doesn't get many touches.  When Ronnie Brewer of the Jazz was in, that's who Kobe was guarding.  Deron Williams is their best player.

Capsfreek68..I dont think i said every night.. but if i did say every he guards the best player every night then i apologize.... I believe a big reason why he doesn't guard Deron is because Fisher played with him and has a good feel for him ..  also if kobe guards Deron then who is fisher guarding, do you put the 6'1 fisher on the 6'7 brewer.. doesn't make much sense.

Jaywill, I will grant you that Chris Paul is an awesome player. I love watching him play.

MVP is called the Most Valuable Player. It is how valuable a player is to a TEAM. It is not only about stats.

With shredded tendons in his fingers that require surgery, Kobe Bryant has had to carry the Lakers on his back while other starting players were getting knocked out of mulitple games or the season by injuries.

Chris Paul has a healthy David West, Tyson Chandler, and Peja Stojakovic who are really great players almost all season to dish the ball to. When Chris sits down, New Orleans can still beat up teams. When Kobe sits down, the Lakers are in trouble.

Tyson Chandler was 2nd in the league in field goal percentage(62.3), and Stojakovic was number 3 in 3pt field goal percentage at 44.1%. I am not trying to take anything away from Chris Paul, but these guys do a great job in helping Chris get those assists.

Chris is going to win in the assist category because he is a POINT GUARD. Point guards are suppose to have low turnover ratios.  He is in charge of dishing out assists.  In fact he led the league in assists, thanks to having great HEALTHY players surrounding him. Kobe was only in the top 20.(19). Kobe was the number 2 scorer behind LeBron James.(Number 9 in assists tied with Iverson by the way)

If you want to base the award on stats and stats alone, I think you should give the award to LeBron James or even Allen Iverson over Chris Paul. By the way Kobe had more blocks per game than Chris Paul as well. Kobe had about 40 this year and Chris had maybe 6 or 7. You mentioned free throw percentage but failed to mention free throw attempts per game. Kobe was number 7 in the league in free throw attempts at 9.1. This means he was being hacked away at as he penetrated or dished.  Chris was at 4.9 and number 40. Who do you think took more punishment? By the way Lebron was number 2.

Kobe also played in every single lakers game injured or not, and led the team in minutes played. He also led his team in shots attempted. I thik he was second in the NBA behind LeBron James. By the way this league is about the SCOREBOARD.  Without Kobe Bryant, how many points do you think the Lakerscould have put on the scoreboard?  Now how many points would a New Orleans team without Chris Paul put up?

So Jaywill3, you were wrong about North Carolina winning it all in your earlier posts, and I feel you are wrong about the MVP as well. The award is not GIVEN. The award is a voting system. It was not GIVEN, it was earned.

Hey I'll give it to you CP3 is a great player and stats don't lie...Kobe did all the small things to make his team better, and luckily for him he has better players around him than CP3 so he doesn't have to do as much as in years past.  CP3 is a point guard so i expect him to have more assist and a better TO ratio.  Kobe is an attacker and scorer, but i must say he has stepped up his assist this year.  CP3 won the steals (good job).  Field goal percentage (Kobe scored more points so this doesn't count)  Three point percentage (Kobe shoots more threes and made more so this is out).  Just admit that Kobe had ANOTHER great year and finally got honored for it.  CP3 I hope will stay on top of his game like Kobe for many years and get the honor that he is due, in time.  Best player in the league all around hands down...Kobe Bryant.

The award should be given to whoever is the best player in the league, and that is Kobe.  I agree its sorta a lifetime award, because its not right that Kobe has never won it.  The year he dropped 81 on the Raptors he should have gotten it.  If you can score 81 points in a game, you are clearly the best player in the L.  20 years from now people will be saying Kobe along with MJ's name...he's actually that good.

If we're just going by stats then you don't need anybody to vote, you can just let a computer work it out.  It works so well for the BCS doesn't it?
