Listening to the Ref Network and Bob Stoops spoke with Roy Williams he stated "Roy Williams is a player, plain and simple, the guy can play. I don't like how the media is protraying him and how they are ripping his game, you can say what you want, but this is a team game, not 1 man can make or break a team, championship teams don't operate like that"

The interesting point of the interview was when Stoops said, "I've given Roy some advice going into the offseason, and I spoke to him yesterday. Roy is not playing for the money but for his passion for the game, and I'm under the impression he would make some monetary sacrifices to play in Dallas or elsewhere, just my impression, one thing is for sure, Roy needs a fresh start"

Sounds like Roy would be willing to re-do his contract to make him easier to trade...very interesting nugget.

THe monetary sacrifices sounds to me like he would be willing to redo his contract to lower his numbers or something.

no not just yet. Lets see how his play is with the new revamped secondary and with Campo back as coach. He has stated that he is uncomfortable in wades 3-4. Sometimes a player takes longer to adjust. I see this defense greatly improved after a year of working at it. Give him one more year.

I think that with Campo coming back he will find his place in the 3-4 defense.  He will come back this season and play like the Roy Williams of old.  He is still a good player he just hit a slump and needs to get over it.

Okay, maybe someone can enlighten me.  My only football playing experience was in high-school, and I must admit that besides kickoff coverage, my butt was mostly on the sideline.

What is the difference - for a Safety - between a 4-3 and a 3-4?  I always thought that the safety's responsibilities were the same for both schemes, and the only difference is these new coverage schemes that coaches have come up with - cover 2 and the like.

So when someone says:

I think that with Campo coming back he will find his place in the 3-4 defense.

I'm a little confused.  To my way of thinking, Roy Williams' place shouldn't have changed when the Cowboys went from the 4-3 to the 3-4.  What may have changed is the type of coverage that these new coaches brought in, but I don't hear anyone talking about changes in coverage.

Dallaz4Life ~

Roy's gonna get his "one more year," if only because Dallas would take too steep a cap hit by trading/releasing his THIS year.  They can't afford to cut bait this year.

That said, let's not go making excuses for Roy.  He didn't play well last year, and he didn't play well the year before.  That's more than being in a slump -- that's opposing offensive coordinators recognizing his liabilities and exposing them.

Then he complains that he's not used to playing in a 3-4 scheme.  Well, heck, the secondary isn't really affected at all in the 3-4.  The difference between the 3-4 and the 4-3 the front seven alignment, not the defensive backs.

Finally, Roy isn't even working out with his teammates.  From what Greg Ellis said, Williams does his workouts in the early morning, then leaves before the erst of his teammates get in.  Sorry, but Roy's gotta be more of a "team" guy.

i think we should keep Williams i believe the problem was or secondary not him.  things just got so bad that when ever something went wrong back there people just automaticly blamed Williams when some times Newman was getting beat and Reeves was a complete liability for us whenever he touched the field.  even McNabb pointed it out one time when he was playing us saying the weakest part of our secondary was Reeves.

Look, I like Roy Williams as a person and all, but seriously this guy is becoming a liability in more ways than one.  Not just with his weak coverage skills, but with him not wrapping up when tackling.  Not to mention the guy is probably one "horse collar tackle" away from a multiple game suspension.  And now, he is isolating himself from the team and complaining about the defensive scheme and how he isnt comfortable in a 3-4.  Cry me a river Roy, you are a professional...deal with it or restructure and be shipped.
