What has been the biggest White Sox surprise so far?
Floyd: 3-1, 2.50 ERA, 39 2/3 IP, 19 K's (two no-hit bids into atleast the 8th)
Quentin: .293 Avg., 9 HR's, 25 Runs, 28 RBI's, .414 OBP, .595 SLG
Swisher: .208 Avg., 3 HR's, 20 Runs, 9 RBI's, .338 OBP, .320 SLG
Team hitting: .239 Avg. (AL last place), 295 hits (second to last in AL), 11 SB (AL last place)

I voted for Quentin because I did not expect this level of production from him. The teams offensive woes unfortunately are not a surprise due to last years inability to hit.
I believe that the biggest surprise is the strong starting pitching that we are seeing. Except for a couple of bad starts from Buehrle almost every start from all 5 starters has been a quality start. Nobody expected that. I just wish we could support the starters with some offense.

Quetin's all star play? Come on,decent , but not even close to all star.
Swisher is exactly what I expected. He's a slow, defensively challenged, soft hitting high strikeout guy who takes some walks and loves his hair dye.
The team is hitting the same as it has for the last year and a half, Kenny did nothing to fix it, where's the surpise?
That leaves Floyd.

WSworld. You need to take a look at Carlos Quentin's numbers. The guy is putting up legitimate all star numbers.
Quentin is leading the AL in home runs and OPS (slugging % + OB%). He is second in the AL in slugging %. He is 4th in the league in OB% and RBIs. He plays a serviceable left field, and can even swipe the occasional base. How does that not translate into an all star caliber performance so far this season?

How is Quentin not an All Star WSworld? Except for his roughly .280 avg (nothing amazing but better than anyone else on the team) he is at the top for just about every offensive category in the American League. Let's not forget his defense as well.

Don’t get me wrong, I think Quentin has been a great addition to a very poor outfield and I would go so far as to say his D is average+ at this point. His numbers are good, but he is not cracking the all star outfield this year. He has been steady and beginning to trend down as pitchers have seen his strengths, if you look at the AL outfielders who have done it for years , his numbers are only ok, many of these guys start a little slow but end up in the same place year after year. My point is 6 weeks in not nearly enough to put him in that category. To be top 6 in the A.L. would be great, but I don’t think he’s even top 6 in this division and it may be the worst in baseball.

What about Jenks? Crede?
I like Quentin, it's the only move Kenny made in the last year that looks any good to me. I think it's the only move he hasn't got completely ripped off on . We'll see in time how Carter does, but right now it's a win. He just doesn't seem like an all star, yet.

Floyd's fast start. I was expecting Lance Broadway to be taking his turn in the rotation by June. I never expected Floyd to be our best starter six weeks into the season. | |
