I used to live in Florida, near Orlando. While I was there, if the guys and I were bored we would head down to Orlando and catch a Magic game. After that we would wait around till the players would leave and try and catch them in their cars so we can get autographs. Darryl Armstrong and Mike Miller were the only 2 that ever gave us autographs. Tmac almost ran me over one time. haha.

Anyways, the NBA atmosphere is a pretty amazing one, especially in the playoffs. Its not as good as college, but its still fun, especially if you have a good team.

With all that being said, what do you guys think about having an NBA team in Kentucky? Not in Lexington, per say, but in Kentucky, maybe Louisville? I think the basketball state should be represented by both amazing college teams and pro teams. Anyone agree? I understand that 85% of the state want Kentucky basketball and thats it, but having an NBA team would be really cool.

Let me know.

I think the atmosphere would be different if Kentucky had an NBA team, different for the NBA. I think if they had a good team, alot of people would come to the games and be supportive, unlike the Miami Heat for example. People only show up to the games if they are doing good, otherwise nobody really cares. Since, KY is a basketball state, fans would enjoy it more than here in Florida. I'd like to see an NBA team there sometime in the next 10 years. We're alot more deserving than Oklahoma City, Louisville is a bigger city and fans would support the team just as much as the 'Cards probably.

Dont you think there was secondary motive about putting the new UL arena DOWNTOWN instead of the more logical on campus or fair/expo center location??????

No one will completely admit it but you know its in the back of eveyones mind. Why else attach a high rise hotel to a new multi-million dollar arena.

On a side note, rumor also has it that UK is building a new arena to replace Rupp in the adjacent parking lot. Any news on the progress of that?????

Personally, I'd love to have an NBA team here in Louisville. I think it'd be a great attraction. Basketball state or not, there's a good deal of sports fans in general that enjoy events. I'm not really into baseball, but I love going to Bats games.

I always thought an NBA team was on the horizon when the mention of the new Stadium was brought up. There was a lot of disagreement with it being built. But, it was pushed through rather quickly and have already began building. I think we'll be hearing franchise talk within a couple years.

There is no way we are building a new arena. In the future yes, but not anytime soon. It would be a waste of money anyway.

here is the first article i came upon.  Im sure there are others, and some may be better, but i just wanted to show you that it is being thought about

Yea I heard about it when ULs arena actually received a "go". I dont know if its political ponder or if its ever going to happen. Dick Vitale mentioned it in a game once saying "Hey UL, UK says What you can do, we can do better". Even when it first happen the expectation was something like 2012 ro something.

Anyway just throwing it out there that Louisville is the most obvious choice for ANY por sport but Lexington building ans arena could push Lex into the chatter

I live in North Carolina, another state that is pretty big into college basketball (not as much as us Cats fans... but still). The Bobcats are an awful team because they try to recruit the UNC players. North Carolinians wanted their NBA team to be an extension of their college teams... so their draft picks are not the best choices for the team, but are who will get the local fans to come to games. If Kentucky wants to have a successful NBA team they will have to decide what's more important to them, keeping local talent or winning... I don't know the answer, it probably depends on who is defining "success." Personally, I'd love to see an NBA team in Kentucky, I think it would be great for the state. And who wouldn't want to play ball, on whatever level, in the state where basketball is king?

Good point.

I think Ky could have a successful NBA team and possible keep talent in while also getting outside talent.

I think an NBA team could be very good for the state and the fans get another basketball team to cheer for that goes longer than the college season does.

Also, when college and basketball season collide, the fans in Louisville will have something to look forward to.
