Kuroda winless since one-hit shutout: Dodgers SP Hiroki Kuroda (5-7) was hit hard early Wednesday against the Rockies but settled into a groove, lasting six innings and giving up five runs during a 5-3 loss. He allowed just one of his nine hits over his last three innings after giving up eight hits and five runs in the first three. He walked one and struck out four. "He couldn't make pitches in the first three innings," Dodgers manager Joe Torre said. "Location was his problem. Then, he settled in. They couldn't hit him in the last three innings he worked." Fantasy Analysis
Kuroda is now winless in his last three starts since pitching a one-hit shutout July 7 against the Braves. He has allowed 10 earned runs in his last two starts and the wheels are starting to come off for the 33-year-old rookie. Kuroda is not an overly dominating pitcher, but has been impressive for the most part in 2008 and can be used as a No. 4 or No. 5 Fantasy SP in larger mixed leagues. His next scheduled start is for either Monday or Tuesday against the Giants. He is on track to be a two-start pitcher Fantasy Week 18 (July 28-Aug. 3) with his second start coming against the Diamondbacks. Kuroda has not faced San Francisco in 2008 and is 0-1 with a 8.22 ERA against Arizona. (Updated 07/23/2008).
