Linebrink to close ... temporarily: The White Sox placed RHP Bobby Jenks on the 15-day DL, retroactive to June 30, with left scapula bursitis. To replace him on the roster, they purchased the contract of RHP D.J. Carrasco from Triple-A Charlotte. According to The Sports Xchange notes: RHP Scott Linebrink will continue to hold the closer duties in Jenks' absence, but manager Ozzie Guillen said that he has other options, namely in RHP Octavio Dotel, who has closed before, and LHP Matt Thornton if need be. "I like Linebrink," Guillen said of that ninth-inning spot. "I think Linebrink is more over the plate than Dotel. Dotel is in the picture because he's done it before. But I think he's doing so good down there (in the set-up role) that I don't want him involved." (Updated 07/09/2008).
