Vargas or Niese to get call from Mets?: The New York Daily News reports that the Mets are likely to call up either Claudio Vargas or Jonathon Niese to take the spot start on either Aug. 7 or 8 in place of the injured John Maine.

Fantasy Analysis

Vargas started a few games for the Mets earlier this season but was then moved to the bullpen. He is the most likely candidate to get the call, but would only be a very risky NL-only option for Fantasy Week 19 (Aug. 4-10). The same goes for Niese, who is 6-7 with a 3.04 ERA between Double-A and Triple-A this season, but has yet to pitch in the majors.
