Myers walks five in return to majors: John Maine pitched seven effective innings and the Mets took advantage of a wild Brett Myers in his return from the minors during a 6-3 win against the Phillies. The 27-year-old Myers struggled with his command Wednesday. He walked four straight batters in the first inning as frustrated Phillies manager Charlie Manuel watched helplessly, chomping on his gum while leaning over the dugout railing. Marlon Anderson made it 2-0 with an RBI groundout. Myers loaded the bases in the third on a walk, a hit batsman and Carlos Beltran's single. Easley's run-scoring infield single with two outs put New York ahead 3-2. Myers walked five in five innings, throwing 49 strikes and 46 balls. He allowed three runs and three hits while striking out two. He took a no decision as left in a 3-all tie. (Updated 07/23/2008).

Fantasy Analysis
Hoping to find his form, Myers made four starts in the minors before returning to the rotation Wednesday for his first major league outing since June 27. He entered 3-9 with a 5.84 ERA and said recently he realized he needs to use his fastball more and pitch more aggressively. He did well after a two-run first inning Wednesday, so perhaps there is hope after all for the struggling ace. Myers is still a second-half Fantasy sleeper since the Phillies will contend in the NL. His next scheduled start is for Tuesday against the Nationals. He is on track to be a two-start pitcher Fantasy Week 18 (July 28-Aug. 3) with his second start coming against the Cardinals. (Updated 07/23/2008).
Myers rejoined the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday after starting four games in the minor leagues trying to shake a season-long slump. (Updated 07/19/2008)
