Qualls closes game as Lyon watches: Diamondbacks RP Chad Qualls came on in the ninth inning Monday against the Cubs to get his second save in eight tries during a 2-0 win. It wasn't easy, though. Qualls walked Ryan Theriot, then first baseman Chad Tracy bobbled pinch-hitter Kosuke Fukudome's grounder. Reed Johnson grounded into a double play, then Aramis Ramirez bounced out to second to end it. The shaky finish came one day after Arizona closer Brandon Lyon gave up five ninth-inning runs in a 6-5 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers. (Updated 07/22/2008).

The Diamondbacks were not auditioning Qualls to replace Lyon, but simply gave their closer the night off after working the first three games coming off the All-Star break.
