Wakefield stays in too long, loses: Red Sox SP Tim Wakefield stayed in a little too long Sunday against the Angels and it ended up costing him in a 5-3 loss. The Red Sox held a 3-2 lead and Wakefield (6-7) had retired 17 of 19 batters before Juan Rivera and Howie Kendrick hit back-to-back doubles to start the eighth and tie the score. Manny Delcarmen relieved and Jeff Mathis sacrificed Kendrick to third before Chone Figgins drew a walk. Casey Kotchman followed by lining a 1-1 pitch into the right-field corner to drive in Kendrick and Figgins. Wakefield allowed six hits and four runs in seven innings. He didn't issue a walk and struck out one while allowing solo homers to Vladimir Guerrero and Torii Hunter. (Updated 07/20/2008).

Fantasy Analysis
The Red Sox should have pulled Wakefield after the seventh and he likely would have won a second straight start. Tough break. Wakefield has allowed more than three earned runs just once in his last 10 starts. The knuckler has been really moving, but Wakefield still remains a low-end Fantasy SP in mixed leagues since he doesn't have a dynamite strikeout total. His next scheduled start is for Saturday against the Yankees. (Updated 07/20/2008).
Wakefield pitched seven innings of two-hit ball to take advantage of another offensive outburst and beat Baltimore 12-1 on Saturday night. (Updated 07/13/2008)
Advice
Wakefield allowed one run and struck out six, extending his impressive run of starts. He has a 2.13 ERA over his last nine starts, lasting at least seven innings eight times over that span. "Everything's been clicking for me," Wakefield said. "I don't want to change anything. I've been on a run and hopefully I can keep doing that."
