    News
The Chicago Sun-Times reports that rookie Sean Gallagher will likely take Jon Lieber's spot in the Cubs' rotation after his outing on Sunday. ''We have a decision to make on what we'll do, but I don't see why we can't pitch Gallagher against Pittsburgh on his next turn,'' Piniella said. ''We'll see. I have to talk to (pitching coach Larry Rothschild). But I think he'll stay in the rotation and (Jon) Lieber will move into the bullpen.'' Gallagher, making his first career start after a lengthy rain delay Sunday against Arizona, didn't fare so well in a no-decision. He allowed four runs on five hits and three walks in 4 1/3 innings, striking out six.

Forget about the big matchup between Big Z and the Big Unit. The Chicago Cubs and Arizona Diamondbacks held Carlos Zambrano and Randy Johnson out of Sunday's game because of heavy rain, strong winds and temperatures in the 40s in Chicago. Instead, the Cubs' Sean Gallagher was to make his first start of the season, with Edgar Gonzalez taking the mound for the Diamondbacks, who were trying to avoid a three-game sweep. Zambrano is scheduled to pitch Monday against San Diego, but the rotation is unclear beyond that.

Cubs SP Carlos Zambrano, pitching on a 41-degree night on an extra day's rest because of a rainout Sunday, allowed six hits and three runs in seven innings Monday against the Padres, striking out five and walking two to record his sixth win. "It's OK for me. I'm from Alaska," Zambrano said, drawing laughs at his postgame news conference. "No, it's tough man, especially for me. I'm from South America, Venezuela. It is not this cold. Not even close."

"That's what I try to do because I know when I swing at a strike, I know that I hit the ball very hard."
