Reds rookie Johnny Cueto fell to 2-4 during Sunday's 8-3 loss to the Mets after allowing just three runs in the first two starts of his career. The Mets jumped on Cueto early Sunday as they scored three times in the first on four hits. He then settled down to allow just one hit over the next three innings, but ran into trouble in the fifth when Carlos Beltran and Ryan Church hit consecutive homers. Cueto was done after 4 2/3 innings, allowing eight hits and six runs. He walked three and struck out five as his ERA jumped to 5.91.

    News
Reds SP Bronson Arroyo struck out the side in the first inning of the second game of a doubleheader Saturday at the Mets and immediately put to rest any thoughts of a repeat of his awful start a week ago, when he gave up seven runs in the shortest start of his career -- 1 1/3 innings. Baffled by his 8.63 ERA entering Saturday despite being healthy, Arroyo struck out the side again in the seventh, then fanned Jose B. Reyes to start the eighth. The right-hander finished with nine strikeouts and two walks in eight innings, allowing four hits and one run. He won for the second time this season.

Reds RP Francisco Cordero needed four outs during Monday's 8-7 win against the Marlins to record his sixth save. After Marlins OF Luis Gonzalez singled home a run in the eighth inning, cutting thee Reds lead to 8-5, Cordero came on and hit Wes Helms to load the bases with two outs. Ken Griffey Jr. dropped Mike Rabelo's fly ball to shallow right field for an error that let in two more runs, and a walk loaded the bases again. Griffey bobbled Alfredo Amezaga's fly to the warning track before holding on with his bare hand for the last out of the inning. Cordero pitched a perfect ninth, which included a three-pitch strikeout of Jeremy Hermida, for his sixth save in as many chances.

The Reds batted out of order in the ninth inning of their 8-3 loss Sunday to the New York Mets. Backup catcher David Ross came to the plate to lead off the inning and lined out. But the batter in the No. 8 spot should have been outfielder Corey Patterson, with Ross hitting ninth after an earlier double switch. Patterson was charged with the out, which officially counts as a putout by the catcher, and Ross came up again. This time, he singled.

Reds SP Matt Belisle, who allowed five earned runs in five innings in his last start Saturday at the Mets and has a 7.45 ERA through four starts, might get pulled from the rotation, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. "We haven't discussed it yet," said manager Dusty Baker. "I don't want him walking around here like he's on death row." The Reds currently list their Thursday starter as TBA and might end up needing Belisle for at least one more start because of a doubleheader Saturday.

Jeff Keppinger and Brandon Phillips hit two-run homers in the seventh inning for the Cincinnati Reds Monday night, breaking open a tied game and sending Aaron Harang to a long-awaited victory, 8-7 over the surging Florida Marlins. It looked good early for Florida as they piled up three solo homers off Harang (2-5). However, Cincinnati's wildly inconsistent offense came through for its No. 1 starter. The Reds hadn't scored more than five runs in any game behind Harang, who gave up four runs and seven hits in seven innings before turning his rare lead over to the bullpen. Harang walked two and struck out four.
