Marlins SP Ricky Nolasco broke a personal three-game losing streak with six strong innings Friday at Washington as the Marlins ran their winning streak to a season-best five games. "It's starting to rub off on everybody now," said Nolasco (2-3), who had won only two of his previous 15 starts and began the season in the bullpen. "I know what that feeling's like, just like what we had in '06. As long as we can just keep feeding off each other, we can go out there and pitch a different game." Nolasco allowed one run, four hits and walked two. He also struck out a season-high six.

The Sports Xchange reports that Marlins SP Scott Olsen plans to throw his regular bullpen session Tuesday and make his next start Friday despite concerns about his velocity not topping 88 mph on Sunday. Olsen usually hits the mid-90s with his fastball, which was about 10 ticks slower on Sunday. He said his arm and shoulder feel fine. "That's the thing, I don't feel anything and I still can't throw hard. I reach back and throw and it's not there right now. Maybe it'll come back. Hopefully it comes back."

Marlins SP Burke Badenhop didn't allow a run through four innings Monday against the Reds and was staked a 3-0 lead, but the right-hander couldn't hold it and left in all 4-all tie after six innings. Badenhop gave up four runs (three earned) and six hits in six innings. A throwing error by third baseman Jorge Cantu let in one of the runs. He struck out two and walked two in the first start since recording his first major league win Wednesday against the Brewers.

The Sports Xchange reports that Marlins 2B Dan Uggla doesn't want to try to analyze his hot start since being dropped from his usual No. 2 spot in the batting order. Uggla is batting .437 (14-for-32) with eight homers and 16 RBIs in his first 10 games since being dropped to fifth or sixth in the batting order from his usual two spot. He hit his 12th home run Monday, his fourth in three games -- including two homers Sunday after hitting his first career grand slam on Saturday. "I don't attribute it to anything. It seems like everybody has kind of forgotten about the last two years," said Uggla, who hit 27 homers in 2006 and 31 last year primarily batting second. "I don't think where you hit in lineup is going to make you hit more homers or more doubles. I'm not trying to over-analyze anything. I'm just going to roll with it."

Marlins 22-year-old SP Andrew Miller, coming off his best start of the season in which he gave up two earned runs in six innings, topped it Saturday at Washington. He gave up singles in the first to Cristian Guzman and sixth to Felipe Lopez, but nothing more. He struck out seven and walked one in seven shutout innings, equaling his career highs in innings pitched and strikeouts in winning his third straight decision. "I think we're pretty good," Miller said. "All the guys in here think we're pretty good. I think we're pretty balanced -- especially if the starting pitcher keeps it up. I pitched pretty poorly early in the year."

The Miami Herald reports that Renyel Pinto is having an excellent season in the Marlins bullpen. "He has a certain swagger when he goes out there because he knows he's good," catcher Mike Rabelo said. "He's been awesome, taking the ball every day for us no matter if it's righties or lefties. We've been able to rely on him every day. He has great confidence, and you need that in the game. He also has a nasty changeup. Everything's clicking for him."
