    News
Twins SP Kevin Slowey allowed three runs and four hits over five innings Thursday in a 6-2 loss to the White Sox. Slowey, making his second start of the season and his first in over a month after a trip to the DL (biceps), looked good until the fifth inning when he gave up a solo homer to Jermaine Dye, a double to Joe Crede and a two-run shot to Juan Uribe. He finished with four strikeouts and no walks.

One start after giving up five runs on eight hits in six innings, Twins SP Boof Bonser didn't do much better Friday against the Red Sox, allowing six runs on seven hits in four innings. He walked three and struck out three but didn't factor in the decision.

Elbow - 15-day DL. Out for the season (Updated - 5/11/08)
    News
The Twins placed setup man Pat Neshek on the 15-day disabled list Friday after an MRI test revealed an acute partial tear of the ulnar collateral ligament in the sidearmer's elbow. Neshek will not be allowed to throw for a minimum of three months, which means the injury has effectively ended his season. The ulnar collateral ligament is the same ligament that pitchers have repaired when they undergo Tommy John replacement surgery. "Obviously it's really bad, but it's good I can come back and rehab this and not have to go through surgery and sit out for a good year," Neshek said after Friday's game, his arm fully wrapped. "So we're going to prepare for opening day next year. It just needs a little bit of time to heal and a little bit of rehab to build it back up."

Carlos Gomez became the first Twins player since Kirby Puckett 22 years ago to hit for the cycle, Livan Hernandez took a shutout into the ninth and Minnesota beat the Chicago White Sox 13-1 on Wednesday night. Hernandez (5-1) was in line for his eighth shutout and his first since July 31, 2004, until Jermaine Dye hit a solo homer with one out in the ninth. He allowed nine hits, struck out three and walked one in his first complete game since last May 27, when he threw one for Arizona against Houston.

    News
Against Boston Friday, Carlos Gomez walked with two outs in the ninth -- just his fourth free pass of the year -- and moved up on a steal. He scored on Mike Lamb's clutch single to win the game. Gomez's patience, not yet one of his virtues, was the key. "That was a great at-bat," manager Ron Gardenhire said. "He had a chance to chase some of those pitches. That's a growing experience for him. That's learning and not trying to do too much."

    News
In his first big-league start Saturday against the Red Sox, Twins SP Glen Perkins had little trouble with big boppers David Ortiz, Ramirez and Lowell in the middle of the lineup. They combined to go 1-for-9 with a single and no RBI against the lefty, but the Red Sox got a big boost from hitters No. 8 and 9 in the order. Perkins took a 2-1 lead into the seventh inning before the light-hitting duo of Coco Crisp and Jed Lowrie spoiled his evening. He gave up three runs and nine hits with three strikeouts in six-plus innings, taking the loss. Not bad for a guy who was pitching in teammate Nick Punto's cleats and with a glove his wife brought him from home after his equipment never arrived from Triple-A Rochester.
