    The Sports Xchange reports that Pirates SS Jack Wilson, on the disabled list since April 4 with a slightly torn muscle in his left calf, has resumed designated hitter duties at extended spring training in Bradenton, Fla., but has yet to play in the field. The Pirates had hoped to have Wilson back last Tuesday when they began the seven-game homestand that ends Monday but he suffered a setback and they now have no firm timetable for his return.

    The Sports Xchange reports that, after each game, Freddy Sanchez can be found with his right shoulder wrapped in ice. The Pirates second baseman is still feeling the effects of shoulder surgery performed last September, he said Sunday before the game with Atlanta Braves was rained out and rescheduled as part of a doubleheader Monday. "It's better than it was in spring training but it still hurts," Sanchez said. "I'm still not throwing as well as I know I can. It's had an effect."

    Pirates SP Zach Duke (2-2) shook off five walks and three errors behind him to limit Atlanta to five hits over six shutout innings, as the Pirates won their season-high sixth in a row Monday, 5-0 over the Braves. Duke, who struck out three, was constantly in trouble, with at least two runners reaching in all but one inning, but he got key outs when he needed them while stranding 10 runners. Before Monday, the left-hander hadn't won successive starts since beating the Brewers and Mets, respectively, on Sept. 11 and 17, 2006.
