The Dallas Morning News reports that Richie Sexson, the 6-foot-7 helmet-throwing Mariner, was suspended for six games and fined for his role in Thursday's brawl against the Rangers. The suspension was supposed to start Friday against the White Sox, but he's appealing. Mariners SP Felix Hernandez was fined, as was Rangers catcher Gerald Laird and pitcher Sidney Ponson.

Vicente Padilla allowed two hits over seven innings to outpitch Erik Bedard, and Milton Bradley homered as the Texas Rangers beat the struggling Seattle Mariners 2-0 Wednesday night. Bedard (2-2) allowed two runs on six hits in his seven innings. Bedard, who allowed a couple harmless singles through three innings, yielded a one-out single to Bradley in the fourth. Then with two outs, Brandon Boggs pulled an high fastball into the left-center gap. Bradley scored easily and Boggs reached third without a throw. Bradley hit an 0-1 pitch from Bedard into the left-field bullpen with two outs in the sixth.

Mariners 1B Richie Sexson's suspension for charging the mound Thursday was reduced from six games to five. The Mariners said Sexson would begin the suspension with Saturday night's game against the White Sox. He will miss the final two games of the series against the White Sox and all three games Monday through Wednesday at Texas. Sexson charged the mound and flung his helmet at Texas SP Kason Gabbard after the left-hander threw an eye-high pitch to him that was more over the plate than inside in the fourth inning of Thursday night's game. "It's acceptable for what happened," Sexson said. "With the helmet, I'm happy with five. It could've been worse."
