--3B Garrett Atkins became the final member of the Rockies to be left out of a starting lineup. Jeff Baker was at third base in place of Atkins on Thursday against Arizona RHP Brandon Webb. Atkins did, however, come into the game as a pinch hitter in the eighth and flied out, ending his 12-game hitting streak.
--Cs Chris Iannetta and Yorvit Torrealba continue to share the duties. Manager Clint Hurdle said he wants to keep them fresh, and he admitted the pitching staff struggles can impact a catcher. "The catcher takes it personally when things don't go well (for pitchers)," Hurdle said.
--RHP Aaron Cook threw an 0-2 pitch that Chris Snyder turned into a three-run home run in the fifth for a 5-0 Arizona lead. It was only the fourth home run Cook has allowed, the second one in his last five starts, and the first home run he has given up this season with a runner on base.
--LHP Josh Newman spent only 11 days at Class AAA Colorado Springs and made two appearances, working three shutout innings, before rejoining the Rockies when RHP Ryan Speier was placed on the disabled list. Newman gives the Rockies a left-hander in the bullpen in addition to closer Brian Fuentes.
--The nine-game homestand the Rockies open Friday night equals the second longest of the season. They have a 10-game homestand in August when they have a four-game series with Washington (Aug. 4-7) and three-game series against San Diego (Aug. 8-10) and Arizona (Aug. 12-14).
BY THE NUMBERS 8 -- Players from the first round of the 2006 draft who have appeared in the big leagues, with RHP Greg Reynolds, the second pick overall, debuting for the Rockies on Sunday. He joined RHP Luke Hochevar, No. 1 overall to Kansas City, 3B Evan Longoria, third overall to Tampa Bay, RHP Brandon Morrow, fifth overall to Seattle, LHP Andrew Miller, now with Florida, sixth overall to Detroit, RHP Tim Lincecum, 10th overall to San Francisco, RHP Max Scherzer, 11th overall to Arizona, and RHP Ian Kennedy, 21st overall to the Yankees.
QUOTE TO NOTE "It's not like you go to a higher level if you do well here. There's a learning process. And the sixth inning was a learning curve for him," -- Rockies manager Clint Hurdle on RHP Greg Reynolds, who allowed one run the first five innings of his big-league debut on Sunday, then allowed three more in the sixth inning at San Diego.

so although im not the biggest fan of the Holliday trade... i think it could help us in the long run, IF we use the money we saved to balance our team and add a few key players...
here are my plans that could possibly fix the Rockies,
ESPN.com is reporting that Matt Holliday has been traded to the As. Terms of the deal were not released but it looks like we got some nobody pitcher as part of the package. Hopefully, they also threw in some decent prospects and/or draft picks. Sad day here in Denver.
