--RHP Mark Prior has suffered a significant setback in his rehab. He had an MRI Monday in San Diego after experiencing pain in his surgically repaired shoulder while warming up to throw batting practice last week in Arizona. Prior could fly to Birmingham, Ala., Wednesday to meet with famed orthopedic surgeon Dr. James Andrews. It was Andrews who performed the surgery on Prior last year.
--INF Edgar Gonzalez was playing outfield as well as four infield positions at Class AAA Portland, which increased his value to the Padres. Adrian's older brother made his major league debut Monday night in Chicago and got an RBI with his first major league hit.
--LHP Shawn Estes will make his first major league start since April 5, 2006 on Tuesday night in Chicago. Estes had elbow reconstruction surgery in June of that season and has been rehabbing since. "I've fought hard mentally and physically to get back," the 35-year-old Estes said. "I had almost forgotten what it was like to prepare yourself to pitch every fifth day. I don't expect my arm to bother me, but is it in the back of my mind? Of course it is."
--LHP Randy Wolf allowed one run on three hits through five innings, then failed to retire any of the seven hitters he faced in the sixth. Six scored. Wolf's ERA has gone from a 1.42 to 5.16 in the last five starts (23 runs on 35 hits in 26 1/3 innings).
--2B Tadahito Iguchi, the second baseman on the White Sox's 2005 World Series champions, enjoyed his return to Chicago. "Getting off the plane last night triggered memories," Iguchi said through translator David Yamamoto. "And I always enjoyed playing here at Wrigley Field, which has a very unique historical significance." Iguchi has a .300 average (15-for-50) at Wrigley Field.
BY THE NUMBERS 3 -- Catchers who have made their major league debuts catching Greg Maddux -- Luke Carlin (last night), Rick Wilkins (Cubs, June 6, 1991) and Fernando Lunar (Braves, May 8, 2000).
4 -- Stolen bases in a game for the Padres for the first time since last Aug. 10 in Cincinnati . . . and first time at home since May 8, 2006.
5 -- Stolen bases by the Padres over the weekend after they had swiped only eight in the season's first 36 games.
8 -- Straight series (and 18 of 22 games) lost by the Padres before they won two straight (for the first time since April 13-15) to take the series from the Rockies.
QUOTE TO NOTE "It was good to see. We think that is in there. The players think that, so does the staff. That's more how we expect to play baseball." -- Padres manager Bud Black after the back-to-back wins over the Rockies.

Living in Tennessee, I don't get to see us play until we play either Cincinnati or Atlanta. However, the Portland Beavers will be in town this weekend for a 4-game series in Nashville. Who are some of our top prospects at the AAA level that I will get to see?
Looks like Wolf was traded today to the Astros. Padres received a AAA pitcher (reineke) who was not doing too well (5-9 with a 4.41 ERA). Let's see if Giles and Maddux follow them out the door here. This could turn out to be an even more embarrassing season. H

Don't look now but the potential MVP of the Padres AAA affiliate Peter Ciofrone has himself a 19 game hitting streak. When I watched a few of their games earlier in the year I could tell this guy would be a pure hitter, but I didnt realize that he would be doing th
