Ellis to be suspended while out
Monta Ellis, SG GS
News: The Golden State Warriors suspended injured guard Monta Ellis for 30 games without pay Saturday for violating his lucrative new contract by getting into a moped accident. Ellis, who agreed to a six-year deal worth $66 million in July, severely sprained his ankle in a low-speed crash in late August. The suspension will cost the guard slightly less than $3 million. The Warriors counted four preseason games in the suspension's length, which means Ellis can't return to the club until after Golden State's 26th regular-season game, against Indiana on Dec. 17.
Analysis: Ellis, who recently underwent surgery to repair a torn ligament, was unlikely to return before then anyway, but the suspension means the guard won't be paid during his absence. This does not change much. He was going to miss about this much time with the injury and all this does is provide some sort of closure within the team. Profile
T-Mac starts on Saturday
Tracy McGrady, SG HOU
News: Houston SG Tracy McGrady dropped 10 points on 1-for-4 shooting on Saturday against the Celtics in preseason action. McGrady played in his first preseason game after resting his sore knee for the first two. He was 8-for-9 on free throws and had three rebounds.
Analysis: McGrady averaged a 21-5-5 line last season, with the 21 points being his lowest scoring average since he averaged 15.4 in his third NBA season while with the Raptors. His appeal is diminishing from a Fantasy standpoint, but he's still well worth a pick in the early rounds as a No. 1 forward. If you can get him as your No. 2 option, more power to you. Profile
Villanueva nets 26 points
Charlie Villanueva, PF MIL
News: Milwaukee PF Charlie Villanueva started Saturday's preseason game against the Pistons and scored 26 points in 36 minutes of action. He was 10-of-20 from the field with eight rebounds and a block.
Analysis: After playing a very limited role in the first half of the season while Yi started at power forward for the Bucks, Charlie Villanueva had a great second half last season. He averaged 15.1 points, 7.7 rebounds and 1.3 assists after the All-Star break. So his hopes for a 15-10 season are not that far off. Profile
Afflalo drops 28 Saturday
Arron Afflalo, SG DET
News: Detroit SG Arron Afflalo poured in 28 points to lead both teams Saturday against the Bucks. Afflalo shot 10-of-12 from the field over 25 minutes of action.
Analysis: Despite Saturday's outing, Afflalo is not a player to be considered in Fantasy as he does very little even when given playing time during the regular season. Profile
Bell misses first 4 exhibitions
Charlie Bell, SG MIL
News: Charlie Bell has missed the first four preseason games of the season with a left heel injury. He is considered day to day.
Analysis: Bell appeared in 68 games last season, averaging 7.6 points, 3.1 assists and 2.5 rebounds. He doesn't stand to see more minutes in 2008-09 and remains a low-end Fantasy option. Profile
Herrmann still out Saturday
Walter Herrmann, SF DET
News: Detroit SF Walter Herrmann missed Saturday's exhibition against the Bucks because of sore ribs.
Analysis: Herrmann played in just 28 games with the Pistons and averaged 3.0 points and 1.3 rebounds in 7.1 minutes per game. He's actually a player that could contribute when giving playing time as he showed two seasons ago while with the Bobcats. He averaged 19.9 ppg and 5.6 rpg in the final month of that season when injuries created playing time for him. Unless he gains significant minutes this year, he'll be useless in Fantasy. Profile
Perkins can't play Saturday
Kendrick Perkins, C BOS
News: Boston C Kendrick Perkins did not play in Saturday's preseason game against the Rockets. Perkins remains out with a shoulder injury.
Analysis: Perkins has been working hard in the offseason to avoid a repeat of left shoulder problems that caused him to miss Game 5 of the NBA Finals. He has had problems with the shoulder in the past. He averaged career bests in points (6.9), rebounds (6.1) and blocks (1.5) in his first full season as the starting center in Boston. He's a low-end No. 2 Fantasy center. Profile
Howard signs with Denver
Juwan Howard, PF DAL
News: The Nuggets signed veteran F Juwan Howard earlier this week. Howard averaged a career-low 1.1 points, 1.6 rebounds and 0.3 assists in his 14th NBA season last year with Dallas.
Analysis: Howard is not likely to have a big role with the Nuggets, but the team does not have many viable rebounders so it is possible he plays more than he did a year ago. Profile
Storey waived by New Jersey
Awvee Storey, SF MIL
News: The Nets waived F Awvee Storey. He had been signed as a roster invitee over the summer with an outside chance of making the roster.
Analysis: Storey has not had a very productive career and at this time it's very unlikely he ever will. Leave him on the waiver wire, like most NBA teams likely will. Profile
Fernandez suffers sprained ankle
Rudy Fernandez, SG POR
News: Rudy Fernandez suffered a sprained left ankle late in the fourth quarter of the team's preseason game against Atlanta. Fernandez had scored a team-high 15 points with seven assists and six steals prior to suffering the injury. "It doesn't look serious, but I'm sure he will be out for a few days," coach Nate McMillan told The Oregonian.
Analysis: Forget about the ankle injury. That does not seem to be something that will be an issue. Take a look at the type of production this "rookie" is capable of. He's a player in the mold of a Jose Calderon who can be productive right away if given playing time. Fernandez is expected to get plenty of minutes off the bench as the team's sixth man. Profile
Harrison added for depth
David Harrison, C IND
News: The Timberwolves signed free agent center David Harrison on Thursday. He averaged 5.0 points and 2.9 rebounds over four years with the Indiana Pacers.
Analysis: Harrison was added to give the team some depth at center. He is not expected to see a lot of playing time. Fantasy owners should not consider him a viable option. Profile
White to miss 4-6 months
D.J. White, PF OKC
News: D.J. White will miss four to six months because of a benign growth in his jaw, the team announced Thursday night, according to The Oklahoman.
Analysis: White is scheduled to undergo surgery next week. Doctors must take a bone graft from his hip to mend the bone in his jaw. White, the 29th overall pick out of Indiana, is with the team on its current road trip and is participating in light contact drills, but he hasn't practiced since the team started training camp. Profile
Iverson won't play outdoors
Allen Iverson, SG DEN
News: Allen Iverson planned to stay behind to get treatment on his swollen left knee Saturday rather than taking part in Saturday's outdoor exhibition against Phoenix. The injury flared up as he sat on the bench in the fourth quarter Friday against Minnesota. "I want to be a part of it, I want to play in it," said Iverson, who had nine assists in nearly 23 minutes Friday night. "But I can't start off the season struggling with an injury."
Analysis: Playing alongside Carmelo Anthony for a first full season in 2007-08 didn't take quite a big a toll on Iverson's scoring numbers as expected. He averaged 24.8 points in 50 games with the Nuggets in 2006-07, but managed 26.4 in his first full season in Denver. Expect more of the same from him this season. He's not going to give you great shooting averages and he turns over the ball a ton, but he more than makes up for it elsewhere. Profile
Padgett scoots up depth chart
David Padgett, C MIA
News: Heat center Jamaal Magliore will miss at least six weeks with a broken left hand, and could be sidelined even longer if surgery is required to repair the fracture. That leaves just Mark Blount, Joel Anthony and David Padgett as true centers on the roster. Udonis Haslem is a power forward, but is also an option to be used at the five.
Analysis: The Heat used Blount at center in the second half of the season due to injuries and after Shaquille O'Neal was traded. They could opt to play small with Haslem, but Blount gives them some much needed size. A season after averaging 12.3 points and 6.2 rebounds for the Timberwolves, Blount managed just 8.4 points and 3.8 rebounds for Miami. Expect more or less of the same from him this year. Anthony and Padgett remain unusable in Fantasy for now. Profile

Blount now a lock to start?
