Frye to miss start of season: Portland Trail Blazers forward Channing Frye will likely miss the start of the regular season after having surgery to remove bone spurs from his left ankle. The arthroscopic surgery was performed Monday in Southern California, and the team said he is expected to miss 8-to-10 weeks.

Fantasy Analysis

The Trail Blazers open their season Oct. 28. The 6-foot-11 Frye averaged 6.8 points in 78 games last season. He's expected to again be a key reserve, backing up power forward LaMarcus Aldridge. Forward Ike Diogu, the ninth pick of the 2005 draft, was acquired by the Trail Blazers this summer, and could see additional time in Frye's absence. Frye is actually a pretty decent young forward, but he doesn't get the minutes needed to produce significantly on a consistent basis. He didn't play much in 2007-08 and that was without Greg Oden around. In 2008-09, he should once again be a low-end Fantasy option.
