Kobe unanimous pick; Paul, K.G., LeBron, Howard also All-NBA

NEW YORK -- Kobe Bryant added another honor Thursday to go with his MVP award, becoming the only unanimous selection to the All-NBA team.

The Lakers star was voted to the first team for the third straight season and sixth time in his career. He led Los Angeles to the best record in the Western Conference and was presented with the MVP trophy Wednesday before helping the Lakers to a 120-110 victory over Utah in Game 2 of the conference semifinals.

Joining Bryant on the first team were New Orleans guard Chris Paul, who was three votes shy of being a unanimous pick, along with Boston's Kevin Garnett, Cleveland's LeBron James and Orlando center Dwight Howard.

Garnett was a first-team pick for the fourth time and James made his second appearance. Paul and Howard were first-timers.

Voting was done by a panel of 127 sports writers and broadcasters, with points being awarded on a 5-3-1 basis.

Amare Stoudemire and Steve Nash of Phoenix were voted to the second team along with San Antonio's Tim Duncan, Utah guard Deron Williams and Dallas forward Dirk Nowitzki.

The third team consisted of Houston's Yao Ming and Tracy McGrady, plus Utah's Carlos Boozer, Boston's Paul Pierce and the Spurs' Manu Ginobili, the league's top sixth man.

He shoved have been a shoe in for atleast the third team if not second team all NBA.  He had a better year than Paul Pierce and the second team didn't have a shooting gaurd.

They both had better individual seasons than Kobe and they don't get the unanimous vote? I'd like to see who was picked over them by those people.

Theres no suprise here. Kobe Bryant 1st team all NBA for the third straight year and a unanimus decision its just icing on the MVP cake. He's the best player in the world and with him on the olympic team the U.S. will be bringing home gold for sure. Kobe would not allow them to lose again. That gold medal will go great with t ...(more)

In my opinion, Kobe Bryant should not be the MVP of the NBA.  Chris Paul is the real MVP.  The NBA gave him the MVP award because this is probably his best chance in his career to win the award and his team won the Western Conference.  It's ...(more)

Right now at this point in time you sort of have an argument that Kobe is better than LeBron. Even though LeBron averaged more points assists rebounds and FG%. And he has no team around him at all. Kobe is surronded with talent. LeBron makes everything look so easy and Kobe tries to make himself look so good. Another thing to remember LeBron is 23 just starting his career and Kobe is in his prime. ...(more)

Notice that of the 15 players picked on the 3 all star teams, only 4 are from the (l)east conference. One has to wonder why, year in and year out, the management and coaches of the teams in the East are so pathetic in drafting and developing talent that can match what the West can put up.

I'm not a big fan of all of the Superman hype. However, Mr. Howard is going to be a force for the next 10 years and will probably have at least one title and a couple of MVP awards. He needs to develop a 12 foot shot. He will. He works hard and he is the ultimate professional. It's good to see these young players like Lebron, CP3 and Howard that have so much class at such a young age while they ar ...(more)

I'm a Laker fan, first.  Kobe is without question the best pick.

But you have to wonder why Nash over Parker... Parker absolutely dismantled Nash in their series and proved much more difficult to defend.  The torch has been passed to the new breed.  Paul and Parker are the two premeir point guards in the game.

Where are Carmelo and Iverson in the All-NBA teams? They were some of the leading scorers in the NBA and should at least deserve 3rd team.

Kobe Bryant is no doubt, a fine basketball player, but in my opinion, not the MVP of the NBA.  I think the award should have gone to Chris Paul.  The only reason why I even think he received the award is because this is his best opportun ...(more)
