Nash expects D'Antoni to remain as Suns coach

PHOENIX -- Despite rampant speculation that Mike D'Antoni is headed to Chicago or New York, Phoenix point guard Steve Nash expects his coach to be back on the Suns' bench next season.

Beyond that, the two-time NBA MVP had little to say about the Suns' ongoing coaching saga during a charity appearance Friday.

"This is the last thing I'm going to say about our coaching situation: Mike's my coach," Nash said. "So I expect to see Mike back here next year. And I know there's a lot of stuff going on right now, but Mike's my coach. I love playing for him. I expect to see him back in October."

Nash's remarks came after he helped officials from utility Arizona Public Service and the Suns dedicate a refurbished basketball court at Florence Crittenton of Arizona, which offers programs for at-risk girls.

D'Antoni, who has two years worth $8.5 million remaining on his contract, reportedly has been courted by the Chicago Bulls and the New York Knicks. Earlier this week, the Suns granted D'Antoni permission to speak to other teams even as they expressed hope he would remain with them.

D'Antoni is a offensive mastermind and a defensive moron. Outside of Shaq, they Suns play no defense at all. Getting rid of Marion killed their whole lack of defense philosophy and doomed them. I love the Suns and have since I can remember but they need to play a little d or they wil never win a championship. The year they played the ...(more)

Wow Steve Nash Loves playing for a coach that scolds you if you even mention the word Defense. He lets Nash do whatever the hell he wants with the ball, even if it means not having a consistent offense. Last but not least, you can turn the ball over late in games and melt down in the clutch year after year and all D'Antoni wil ...(more)

Stever traded a lot of talent and money for Shaq for a quick fix, the plan didnt work and now you are firing the coach. Ok, so doesnt stever have some kind of liability for not forseeing D'Antoni's inability of not translating success with Shaq's presence? This reminds me of Detroit Lions' GM Matt Millen, who is the real reason why Lions sux so badly in the past 6-7 yrs. Al ...(more)

D'Antoni is as good as gone...Once a team gives a coach permission to talk to other teams, he's gone. Suns are hoping he quits and signs with another team so they don't have to pay him.
