    Houston forward Shane Battier had a minor surgical procedure done Friday to repair an injury that occurred late in the season. Battier underwent arthroscopic surgery to remove bone spurs in his left ankle. Team doctor Tom Clanton said Battier will be ready to play when the Rockets open training camp in the fall.

    The Houston Chronicle reports that Steve Francis on Wednesday exercised an option on a second year of his contract, as he announced he would in January. Francis appeared in only 10 games in 2007-08 with three starts, averaging 5.5 points and 3.0 assists.

    The Houston Chronicle reports that the Rockets aren't worried about Yao Ming (foot) coming back to play for China in the Olympics. "We're going to be looking at him before he goes," head coach Rick Adelman said. "Hopefully, he'll be on the floor actually playing basketball during that time frame before he goes. I think by the time he goes there, he should be ready to go."
